The inspiration came from the original Fiat Panda, or the Mini? Ahh, I forgot, it's sensual purity. :censored:

These 10 cm additional height

The addition of the battery pack hasn't given the car 10cm extra height compared to it's predecessor, or it's competitors built on either a dedicated ICE platform, or a dedicated BEV platform.

Height - Front/Rear squab to ceiling - ride height

G12 LCI 7-Series 1479mm - 1013/989mm - 135mm
S-Class L 1503mm - 1009/1003mm - 130mm
EQS 1512mm - 1036/966mm - 139mm
i7 1544mm - 1010/981mm - 136mm

I'm sure it had a bearing, but in practical terms, the differences are mostly sod all. Certainly not worth engineering two completely different platforms over...

This is BMW's dedicated platform, you have the thickness of the battery to deal with in the floor thickness of the car either way...

... and even if it were worth doing, the EQS is built on a dedicated platform and it still looks shit, so there's absolutely no guarantee that had BMW chopped a real-world 30-40mm out of the height it would look any better anyway.

I have to admit that my claim does not apply to the i7 but only to the ICE 7er. The i7 would not be lower even if it was on a dedicated EV platforn. Here the penalty goes to the ICE version.

Maybe, but most of the lazy criticism about the car came from styling choices BMW could easily have done something else with irrespective of platform - but the similarities in the overall shape and height of the front end of the G11/12 LCI indicated the direction they would take with this, and the X7. I honestly don't think it would have changed perception of the ICE car that much had it been on its own platform.

Anything could be said by some who do not like it, but the photos do not lie, it is an exquisite car, it has just started sales this year and it already looks like a success, new perspective of the big luxury limousine, almost always a disruptive philosophy will captivate or generate some rejection until they understand that it is the next step of the best-selling brand in the luxury of the equation, perhaps they know something more than the rest.

The i7 biggest failing is its front twin light styling and huge grill, but the back and side profile of the car are not bad. A tweak of the front in a LCI will do wonders for the styling. The EQS on the other hand needs a comprehensive redesign both front and rear. The front lights and grill need to be changed to make it look more elegant and match ICE models and the rear one piece taillights need to be changed to less amoeba shape, similar like the new E-class.

For some months there was speculation about this, almost always without waiting to see the reality, it was taken for granted as a point in favor of the EQS and the very poorness of the i7, words like "shame" among others due to their possible range in comparison were handled on a regular basis, but when a video made to the ground everything comes out, those people are absent and very quiet.
The same happens with other aspects such as sales prospects etc, the crystal ball often breaks here...

These photos belong to the first batch of the official presentation and it is sad but more than a year has passed and it has not grown on me one bit, rather it has decreased even more, it is still as bad as the first day of the shock.
I think that in person, due to its dimensions and appearance, if it should look striking at least, we'll see.

I don’t remember anyone claiming the AMG EQS was going to be range champion. Much of the changes they made for that model greatly impact range. The EQS580 is going to go much further. Over here Car and Driver did a 75mph range test on the highway. The i7 was able to go 260 miles and the EQS580 did 350 miles. And that’s without the efficiency improvements for next year’s model.

It’s mentioned here in what is an otherwise very positive review for the i7: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a43929962/2023-bmw-i7-xdrive60-by-the-numbers/

I’m coming more and more to the conclusion that if you want to drive yourself, you’re best served with EQS. If you want to be driven, i7 is the bettter choice.
After seeing a few video comparisons and reading the different German tests, the EQS seems more of a driver's car compared to the i7, while the BMW has the more comfortable rear seat area.

I have seen at least 4 new 735i/740i models here in Middle East and I don't like the front of the car, it is too upright and ugly. The rear is not bad but it doesnt look like a BMW and a little anonymous unless you notice the BMW badge. I haven't yet seen a EQS here yet.

The new 2024/2025 refresh EQS is looking quite nice. Inclusion of the badge in person makes it look very good and imposing.

BMW for me is just a bit too ugly and unbalanced. Powerful front. but then it looks average for the side and rear.

As others have alluded to - to be driven in the I7 is easy win. To drive, the EQS looks like the winner.
