Spain happened. Two of the most offensive teams of the world cup have been Holland and Germany who have both steam rolled over some very great rivals. Just look at how Germany made minced meat out of England and Argentina. Their offence was put to practice against he most ideal opponents.
Spain on the other hand wasn't having non of it, and refused to be played like fools. The first half of last night's game proves my point very clearly. Holland was toothless and were just passing the ball back and forth to the goalkeeper. They were clueless as to how to penetrate the Spanish midfield. Germany struggled the same way against Spain -- who abruptly ended their world cup crusade. Both Holland and Germany went from effortlessly scoring 3 to 4 golas against opponents to not scoring a single goal against Spain.
I supported the Germany team to win the title and hated on Spain, but after having seen them play against Holland, they have earned my respect.

Yeah that's true for almost all games but did u see the Germany game? Spain was great IMO.

They haven't earned my respect. I hope "beautiful football" finds a way to triumph over Spain's midfield in Euro 2012 (see you there?).
I still believe that Germany would have been able to crack Spain's midfield if Muller wasn't suspended with that bogus yellow card... We would have had an unforgettable final instead of that catastrophe we saw yesterday.
Love the karate kick though.
Why does everybody hate Spain? Think about this... No other world champion has ever lifted the cup scoring so few goals. Spain only scored 8 times in the entire tournament.
They are a filibuster team who recall Greece in 2004. It's an awful style of play that is bad for the sport, bad for spectators and good for grinding away a victory for victory's sake.
*Not to take anything away from Greece. Seeing them defeat Portugal not once, but twice, on home soil brought a huge smile to my face. Not a style you can admire, but they were seriously outgunned and pulled a major upset.

That IS the thing. It feels like international soccer is in a very sad state. When a team like Spain is the standard-bearer something is really wrong with the game.

ABC and ESPN always do that. You should have tuned to Univision 41. It was a nice closing ceremony.

I am sorry osna but the spanish football is exactly how foortball should be played, phenomenal construction through chirugical passes and awefully talented players like inesta and xavi.

I actually like the way the Spanish play. The all-round ability of the team are unbelievable - the only weakness would be that they're not the best finishers. I know that's ludicrous considering Villa was the equal top scorer in the competition, but given an in-form Torres, Spain would have notched up far more than 8 goals. Let's not forget they scored something like 12/13 goals in Euro 2008 with largely the same squad.
