Chronos The Watch Thread.

Hey!

I noticed there were quite a few of us interested in watches and a quick search showed that our last watch discussion ended in 2009!

So I thought I could start a thread where everybody could talk about their favourite watches. Feel free to discuss anything - your own possessions, your dream possessions or your past ones! I'd like to hear them. Let me get some photos of my own timepiece before I chip in my own... But let me start off by saying that in my limited horology knowledge, only three brands appeal to me so far: Patek Philippe, Panerai and IWC. I don't know much about other brands but hey, we're all here to learn aren't we? ;)

Post away! :t-cheers:

A watch that I first bought and then the first people I showed the watch to was GCF - was the Citizen Eco Drive. I still have it today and it runs perfectly. Never regretted my decision as it is a watch that can literally go on forever - as long as the sun still shines.

But recently I made a purchase of another watch, simply because I had an awesome discount for it that I couldn't turn down... More on that later! ;)

I don't have a fancy watch yet, so I'm rolling with this in the mean time. It's still within the 3% of yearly income rule.

I am not a big watch enthusiast, but I do have some interest in them. I can see myself being more interested in them once I have a big enough bank account.

Right now I just wear a Casio G-shock G700BD. It is tough, heavy, durable, and has all the function I need.

I've got one of these (without those buttons), dad bought it to me and sadly a boy in my age doesn't need a watch too often. I like its simple and elegant styling though.

Well,my first "nice" watch is a TAGHeuer AQUARACER chrono automatic:

Then at the beginning of 2010 i was saving some money plus some help from the bonus i took from work i got this:

I really enjoy switching between the two.

My fav watch brands are Rolex,Omega,TAGHeuer and AudemarsPiguet.:)

Always had a fetish for the Tag Kirium F1 watch but by the time I went to buy something is was out of production.

Instead i got a Tag Link Caliber 5, which i enjoy very much

I haven't gotten around to take pictures of my own watch yet but heck... It's the Pilot Mark XVI from IWC.

I used to like the Tag Carrera a lot - I guess the 'Carrera' played a big part too because of its automotive connotations. But after a few years my tastes shifted and I preferred something simple and yet, disciplined in design. That is why I'm such a fan of Panerai now - I think they are one of the simplest-looking watches you can buy, but yet they make such an impact.

In the IWC range I was looking at either the Pilot Mark XVI or Portofino. It was a tough choice but in the end I thought the Mark XVI made more sense as a daily worn watch as it suits any occasion. I never regretted my choice since.

Also, through some luck I managed to get a good discount for it, so that kinda sealed the deal even though spending so much money was not really on my agenda.

I like the XVI because it looks like those aircraft gauges and the movement is a reliable one sourced from ETA (2892 if I recall correctly) but modified by IWC to suit the XVI's thin chassis. So far it has given me nothing but accurate time and it's great that I can wear it to almost anywhere because the casual glance from any stranger and most people can't tell it is an IWC. It is so stealth and yet so simplistically beautiful.

I'll probably keep this for a long time too. I intend to stop here... At least for the next ten years. :D

Those are some stunning watches. You all have great taste. Especially like most of them, because they are not overdone. Just the simplicity is fantastic. Well, I'm absolutely into watches - but still don't really have the money to spend on a watch. Would love to own a Breitling or IWC.

My current watch though is this. Just love it - perfect design and lovely colour (and not that expensive).

Get yourself an Audi first and then the Breitling.

No no…would be perfect to purchase the Breitling together with a Bentley Azure T! :D Well, dreams that will never come true (reffered to the Azure)…but "never say never again".
