Hot! Toyota GT Concept

I don't get all the premature ejaculation. Maybe it will be an amazing handling car. But before we know that, what do you guys find so exciting about the formula? Hybrid TT V8 + auto has been spanked to death. If it comes with NA and/or manual, I get it, but otherwise, I don't know, I think there is a lot of group think going on in the car world.

What's exciting is that it's an entry from the Japanese.

ToyoLexYamaha know how to make a good sounding V8 and this will be just as impressive.

Also most supercar makers are abandoning the V8s. We have the MR Artura, MC20, NSX, 296 all powered by V6s... and here comes a front-midship TTV8 with proportions straight out of 2010, VERY refreshing if I say so myself.

I get the Japanese angle. If you are Japanese car fan, anything exotic comes once in a blue moon. So fair enough.

Sound? I rate LFA as the best sounding car ever. But that was NA V10. I have heard the V8 Lexus', nothing to write home about. And those were NA (vs this one apparently being TT), so I don't get where the "ToyoLexYamaha know how to make a good sounding V8" line is coming from?

Also if sound is your main criteria, you can always get a V12 Ferrari or a NA Porsche GT (based on how this is priced).

Don't get me wrong, not hating on it, I am happy, even excited it is coming. I just don't get the group genuflecting.

There will always be something faster and better sounding and more expensive. "Get a V12 or NA Porsche GT" is a flawed argument.

I was personally never a fan of the LFA sound, I'm one of very few people to have this opinion and prefer the LC500 visually and sound wise.

And yes, Yamaha's acoustics on the NA V8 is what I'm going off of but judging by the minimal amount of sound we got from the Goodwood video before being talked over, I think the GT will sound quite good.

Oh mamma… This has to be one of the most exciting upcoming cars. Certainly more exciting than anything coming from Germany these days IMO.

Yeah except the upcoming GT2 RS

RIP Lexus

Makes a lot of sense. Lexus is not really a global brand.

It's a Gazoo Racing car. More exciting than what the Germans do these days. And with personal backing from motorsport fan Akio Toyoda this must be something very special. It at least already looks VERY special.

Toyota GR has yet to disappoint me.

RIP Lexus
I haven't paid attention to whether current Lexuseseses have a Toyota or Lexus window sticker, but there was a time where Lexi had them "Toyota" stamped on their windows. Plus, these are still prototypes whose development has been spearheaded by the Toyota GR team who are sourcing items from Toyota.

My sense is that the race car is badged as a Toyota and the road-going version is a Lexus, unless there's a homologation requirement that necessitates the road version be the same make as the race-car. It seems like a silly rule if that is the case, but there are more ridiculous things in the world.

a few reasons...
1) It's a Japanese. As a JDM fan today, this is a rarity.
2) Not fully electric. I am fairly agnostic to BEVs these days, but it's nice to see a relatively new ICE, which is a thumping V8. It won't have the acoustics of either Lexus NA engines, but if it's close to AMG's turbo V8's, that's still a treat.
3) Follow-up to the hallowed LFA. Please refer to my avatar that I've had on here for as long as I had an avatar in these parts.
4) While not guaranteed (nothing is), likely very very good build quality as evident on past Lexi: LFA, LC, LS, etc. Likely will be built at either their Tahara or more likely their Motomachi plant.
5) Great driving dynamics as seen on testing videos.
6) while very expensive, it won't be obscenely expensive.
7) Classic cab-rear design.

Look at that long and low hood!

And notice how little sheetmetal there is above the front wheel. It's virtually nothing, like German cars from the '80s and early '90s. I am simply astounded this even is a thing, because I was led to believe this was impossible in this day and age due to regulations for pedestrians and whatnot.

Yeah Motomachi is where they most certainly will hand assemble the GT, as all GR cars are from here. Though I believe they have a joint going in the UK for the GR Yaris as well.

Start up and sound of the GT3 Version

Toyota GR has yet to disappoint me.

If it is a 120k Toyota GR, I am excited too. If it is a 250k Lexus, then not so. My earlier comments were under the assumption it would be latter.

120k LOL
250k is still cheaper than a Carrera GTS over here where I live.

The name/marketing of the thing is completely matter-less to me. But I'd pick Toyota, mostly because Lexus is a complete non factor in the second largest car market in the world...

Why would it be 120k?

An LC500 with a mass production engine and a modular platform is a 100k car.

This is a bespoke GT3-derived platform with a bespoke engine. We are easily looking at a 200-250k car.
