Hot! Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury

Aside from the obvious shortcoming of the exterior design... one thing that really bugs me - and it's not just Mercedes that are guilty of this - but it's the interplay between the head light shape and the grille...

On the Vision 6 etc, the headlights flowed away from the grille, I like this, they give the car a confident and sleek look - without looking unnecessarily overbearing. On this concept, the inside edge of the headlamp runs parallel to the grille - this gives the car a much much angry look, it works on cars like the GT Four door, but it really doesn't suit a proper luxury vehicle... it's aggressive and overbearing. I don't want my luxury car to make the statement to everyone that I'm angry...

Like I say, this isn't just Mercedes... I just think that in this case it's an unfortunate departure from a really good looking design they already have.

I suspect it’s going to look better in real life photos compared to these shitty press shots. Not that it’s going to look good though.

I second you on your opinion about the press images, it look too much animated & un realistic. It’s high time Mercedea has to change their theam.

It has some nice details, but overall looks ugly. Flowers inside lol...

I think it previews the design language of the upcoming W223...

Mercedes-Maybach concept SUV images leak ahead of Beijing reveal

The electric Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept is aimed at the high-end Chinese market

Images and details of the new Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury SUV concept have leaked ahead of its reveal at the Beijing motor show next week.

Photographs of the car first surfaced on CarNewsChina.com, after a web page for the model seems to have been briefly published ahead of time by accident on the official Mercedes-Benz website and can still be seen in cached form.

The car, which Mercedes's premium arm describes as an "SUV saloon", is intended to appeal to affluent Chinese buyers who are vital to the success of super-luxury car sales worldwide. It follows similar models from rivals, such as the Bentley Bentaygaand upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The leaked information confirms the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is designed as an electric car, with four synchronous motors that can offer all-wheel drive and a total power output of 738bhp. It will have a limited top speed of 155mph. The engines are powered by an 80 kWh underfloot battery, which gives an NEDC range of around 310 miles.

The details confirm that the concept features the bold chrome-plated grille first seen on the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 coupé conceptfrom 2016.

Interior images also showcase aspects designed for comfort and luxury, including a large centre console that houses a heated tray containing a tea set. The interior also takes cues from the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, including the large, adjustable seats.

Mercedes-Maybach GLS due later this year

The concept is only a design study and is not set for production.

Mercedes has previously previewed the concept with a video (below) of a luxurious, futuristic interior and released a sketch of its dashboard.

While the concept has been created for the Chinese market, it is likely that design elements will make their way into Western Maybach models.

Currently, the only model on sale by Mercedes-Maybach worldwide is the S-Class. However, a GLS – unrelated to the Beijing show concept – is expected at the Los Angeles motor show in November. The car is tipped to be priced at around £120,000 when sales begin in 2019.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS will share the same basic aluminium-and-steel bodyshell and advanced four-wheel drive underpinnings as the regular GLS. However, its upmarket positioning will be justified by a series of subtle exterior design tweaks and a significantly more luxurious interior.

A high-level Mercedes official previously told Autocar: “We have been quietly surprised by the sales success of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is proving extremely popular in many key markets. The plan now is to extend the exclusivity surrounding the Maybach name into the upper end of the SUV segment. We’re confident that this new model will leave little to be desired in terms of luxury.”

Mercedes is also showing a production version of its A-Class saloon at the Beijing motor show, following the concept’s appearance at 2017’s Shanghai motor show. While this model is set for China, a similar one will arrive in Europe at a later date.

Oh my God...:yuck:

That simply looks like a Volga. What on Earth were they thinking? Instead of a proper, ultimate luxury SUV we get this Chinese, cheap looking nonsense. The car is simply hideous and the ones behind the idea of launching it are plain idiots.

How can a brand like Mercedes-Benz come up with such major dissapointments? I mean, look at it...

Obviously, the numb Merc fanboys will cherish and adore it...

It seems to be a common strategy for not the most eloquent speakers to back up their comments with a sentences like that. Quiet frankly just because someone does like this car, it doesn't make him to a "numb fanboy". Pretty childish imo.
What you are not getting here is, that a car like this was designed for chinese customers in mind that have a pretty strong preference for 3-box-sedans and SUVs. So why not putting both concepts together and try to create something very unusual? I highly doubt that this car will be sold somewhere outside China. It will be built by Beijing-Benz and sold in the Metropolises of China. No way you will ever see this in Europe. You won't probably get one even if it is a grey-import.

I back this sentence of yours, remember MB created the '4-Door coupe' body form which is apparently followed by many others in form of both sedan & SUVs and some of them make better business out of that segment than what MB does. So why not a new "Design Study" on a new body form???

As stated it is only a concept and they won't go to production if the response is negative or poor. No matter if it's China focused or rest of the world, the feedback from the prospective clients will be studied by the team behind the screen to take a decision on whether to go for production or axe it or even produce it with required corrections.

I'll quote an example here - Bentley first showcased 'EXP 9F' as a design study for their SUV, taken around the world and shown to their existing customers, prospects & critics, taken the feedback and decide to produce by with enough changes and launched the Bentayga. Like wise this concept also will be taken around various auto shows and events to take the response and may come to production or may consider the elements to be adopted to next Maybach S-Class, GLS or any other models to come.

I am the only who does not get it, as you always say in your comments towards me. OK, I understand that, Mr. Perfect. I will remain stranded in my abjection while you flirt in your perfection. Bon voyage!

I wonder if this is just meant to be a clever exercise in foresight and that Suvedans will be the next big thing on the luxury market?

Perhaps...I think Volvo tried it with the S60, and Subaru tried it with the Liberty X range...I saw one and only one ever.

I actually like it. It is way different than anything MB offers these days.

You can see the dash is making it to the production GLE/S.

Perhaps a highly adept photoshopper could apply M-B MRA sedan/sedoupe proportions (increased clearance between the base of the A-pilars and a lower, lengthened hood, cylindrical as opposed to squarish wheel openings with subtlely blistered arches, lowered ride height, a lower, more rakish roof/side glass, increased rear overhang...).

^ Might wish to retain more SUV character, though? :)

Nope.

I'd like to see the concepts' design elements applied to a modern 3 (2 1/2) box sedan or 4 door coupe. Not a height-elevated vehicle. I can appreciate some of the logic behind the SUV craze. Yet still, the SUV is hardly my favorite genre of automobile.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
