Portimão. BMW Motorrad Motorsport will compete at the final European event of the 2022 FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) this weekend (7th to 9th October). Autódromo Internacional do Algarve near Portimão (POR) is the venue for round nine of the season. BMW Motorrad Motorsport, the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team and the Bonovo action BMW Racing Team then head overseas. Barcelona. After three consecutive podium weekends, the eighth round of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at Barcelona (ESP) proved to be more difficult for BMW Motorrad Motorsport. Munich. With great disbelief and sadness, BMW Motorrad Motorsport has learned the sad news of the death of IDM rider Leon Langstädtler (GER). The 24-year old BMW rider lost his life in a tragic accident during Friday’s IDM free practice at Hockenheim. Munich. Loris Baz (FRA) will remain part of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport family in 2023, and will start as a BMW Motorrad factory rider in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) again. Next year will be his second season with the Bonovo action BMW Racing Team. The collaboration has been extended accordingly. Baz’s new team-mate will be American Garrett Gerloff. Barcelona. BMW Motorrad Motorsport travels to Spain for the next race weekend in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK). Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosts round eight of the 2022 season this weekend (23rd to 25th September). After a long summer break, four race events will now be held in a fortnightly cycle in September and October. Munich. BMW Motorrad Motorsport will welcome an addition from the United States of America next year. American Garrett Gerloff will compete as a BMW Motorrad factory rider in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) from 2023. The 27-year-old will start for the Bonovo action BMW Racing Team next season. Gerloff started his career in the USA, where he raced in various championships. In 2016 and 2017 he was crowned MotoAmerica Supersport champion. In the following two years, he enjoyed success in the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. The extensive customising programme from BMW Motorrad for the BMW R 18 is now getting a sonorous boost from new Akrapovič rear silencers. 97 mm shorter than the two standard rear silencers, they are made of durable stainless steel, coated in matt black and, together with a silver end cap adjustable in 90-degree steps, give the rear end of the R 18 a decidedly sporty appearance. The stylised BMW brand symbol - the "propeller" - in the centre of the end cap acts as a fine, high-grade detail and special identification mark.
