Megane 2016 Renault Megane

The Renault Mégane, also spelled without the acute accent as Megane, is a small family car produced by Renault since 1996. It is the successor to the Renault 19.
It's better than the poor way, yes.

The car looks horrible though for the rest. But new front and rear lights would do wonders..

A leaked specs sheet is revealing the full details regarding the engine lineup of the new Renault Megane.

Starting with the petrol units, the French hatch will be available with three TCe motors with the base one being the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder TCe 100, generating 100 PS (74 kW) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque. These power figures provide a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 12.3 seconds, while average fuel consumption stands at 5.4 liters per 100 km. The same 1.2 engine will be offered in a 130 PS (96 kW) version that has 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque and provides a sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.6 seconds and 5.3 liters/100 km average fuel consumption.

The most powerful petrol engine in the range will be the 2.0-liter turbo TCe205 EDC with 205 PS (151 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) that is mated to an EDC automatic gearbox. Returning 6 liters per 100 km, this mill is enough for a run from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.1 seconds.

On the diesel side, customers can choose from 1.5 and 1.6 dCi engines. As the names suggest, the dCi 90 and dCi 110 have 90 PS (66 kW) and 110 PS (81 kW), while torque ratings stand at 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) and 260/250 Nm (192/185 lb-ft) for the BVM manual and EDC automatic models respectively. Average fuel consumption is rated at 3.6 l/100 km (dCi 90) and 3.3-3.7 l/100 km (dCi 100).

The 1.6-liter dCi engine will be available in two power stages – with 130 PS (96 kW) and 160 PS (118 kW), with torque levels of 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) and 380 Nm (281 lb-ft) respectively. While details regarding the Megane GT dCi 165 are not available at the moment, the dCi 130 engine provides 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 10 seconds at 4 l/100 km fuel consumption.

If they price the Talisman like what we read in the other thread, then the Megane should cost 1er money...

Any reviews of the new Megane out yet?

2016 Renault Megane configurator launched in France

If you want a German car, you're going to pay German prices, that's what we always say. Renault has improved just about everything about the Megane. But just like with the Talisman, you should not expect a bargain just because the French company uses smaller engines.

The official online configurator is up and running in France, plus a few other countries. Just as we expected, there are four trim levels to choose from, plus the GT model that we talked about yesterday.

The cheapest Megane is called Life and it stickers for €18,200. It's not that badly equipped, as you still get hill start assist, fog lights and a speed limiter. But you only have access to the basic 1.5 dCi and 1.2 TCe engines with manual gearboxes. As you can see from the photo above, steel wheels are also part of the bargain deal.

The highest trim level, for now, is Intens, and it costs anywhere from €25,400 to around €32,000. If adds goodies like the Nappa steering wheel, LED headlights with a 3D effect, an 8.7-inch navigation screen and another 7-inch screen for the speedometer. All the safety sensors are standard and so is navigation.

The cheapest engine is a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated unit that we'd avoid. However, the least powerful gas unit is a 1.2-liter turbo with 100 hp that we'd pick over the 1.6 because its extra torque makes driving easier. Renault also offers the Megane with a 130 PS version of the same engine. It gets to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds with the optional EDC gearbox.

The price difference between the TCE 130 and the less powerful dCi 110 diesel is +€200, which is totally acceptable. However, Renault continues to ask a lot of money for the dCi 130, which is a 1.6-liter diesel with 130 horsepower. It stickers for €3,200 more than the 1.5-liter model.

Oddly, the 7-speed EDC automatic gearbox and the twin-turbo 1.6-liter diesel aren't available yet, so we'd wait a few more months or ask the dealer for more intel.

I really like the reviews by Autogefühl, he is very objective and professional. It seems the Megane is close to the top of its class, by can't like its looks. Still Peugeot 308, Mazda 3 or Volvo V40 for me.

Not very positive, but short enough review from AutoExpress:

Top Gear and Evo had very positive impressions of the Megane, Autoexpress and Autocar, not so much, but then again I don't care about the opinions of those two pathetic magazines.
