Not really. The current 6er already falls between the E coupe and S coupe. The 8er would be a full blown S coupe competitor.

I'll take @bmwblog at their word. It seems like the 6-er is getting a rebadge as an 8-er for now, and then a much sportier 6-er will follow later.

Makes me skeptical of Kruger talking up the GKL segment.

And the spy photographers cannot be wrong? See this comparison, the door, the axles, ... I bet that the wheelbase is only any mm more. We cannot know exactly because the front wheel is a bit rotated.

This is the new 6-Series. I cannot understand that BMW axes the 6-Series as rival from the ew E-Class Coupe and they had one 8-Series as competitor from S-Class Coupe.

The problem the 4-er will always have is it will always share it basics with a 418d poverty spec model, If you think about the comments made about the M4 GTS, many reviewers bought this up. A dedicated sports model 6-er along the lines of the AMG GT would't have that restrictions, it's not necessarily just about size.

Every measurement I try and make from the spyshots points to it being smaller - though it's difficult to be confident with nothing of a known size to scale from. However, I used exactly the same technique on an old spy shot of the S Coupe, and came up with a wheel base of 2952mm - it's actually 2945mm so that's pretty close (7mm).... doing the same thing with the 6-er spyshots gives me between 2790mm and 2840mm... the F13 is 2855mm. As Fido points out, the fact the front wheels aren't straight confuses things a bit.

I'll happily admit if I'm proven wrong. As I tried to prove with the E-class and G30 silhouette comparisons, it's amazing how far off perception can be thanks to other design details.

Good explanation and probably correct, But the 6er shouldn't be a 911/GT fighter - leave that for the Z range.

If you look beyond the M4 underpinnings of the CSL Hommage. Hypothetically You can see how such a car can be positioned between the Coupes. Although it does not appear to be as sleek as say the AMG, 911 or even i8 it certainly emphasises a traditional BMW Coupe but think seating for two(unless you are a contortionist) shorter wheelbase,lashings of CFRP and a more sporting chassis with a very Dyanmics visual aesthetic. It may not be the Sports car you expect but it could be the one you deserve.

Nice, but I guess RIP to the 6ers history then - should be a traditional large coupe - not a GT rival

Somebody here claims he's got the info the coupe prototype is registered as 850i ... So he can presumably also got the info under what moniker the GT prototype is registered: as 5er or as 6er.
