Does the Merc S Coupe look like the Renault Laguna Coupe

Styling is a very subjective thing so some will agree and other will disagree with you. You have made your point so it is best to move on, also you can do with out the condescending tone.

I must apologize for prolonging this ridiculous discussion by continuing in explaining the obvious but I get the feeling that quite a bit of people here need it. therefore I ask if you could leave this post here, it will be the last offtopic from me in this thread.
yes, style is a subjective category in a way that you might like the design of something or not. but being able to recognize that elements conjoined in common pattern share visual similarities with another group of elements in completely other (but similar) pattern is actually very objective ability and is one of the basic characteristics of intelligence. and not just human intelligence. monkeys dolphins dogs, even parrots - studies have shown - are able to recognize visual similarities in different objects and elements of their design. something majority people in this thread apparently are unable to. does e63 6er have something of a shark to its looks? yes it does. does sarah jessica parker have something of a little horse to her appearance? yes she does. does 911s look like a beetle? yes they do. does s coupe's rear 3/4 have a whiff of laguna to it? most certainly. disagreeing with this kind of obviousness its base can only have in one of the two reasons – being extremely unintelligent or a trolling fanboy. anyone who finds himself in one (or maybe both?) of these groups please click disagree or dislike button below. that said, ridiculousness of behaviour of people who 'disagree' with me here is augmented with the fact that, all renault crappyness jokes aside, rear of the laguna coupe is actually quite pretty. why in the hell would you oppose to that lol

What a ridiculous, stupid, uneducated post. I'ts not about the "ten feet bonnet" but the axle location has to do with packaging, drivetrain configuration and weight distribution.
Please educate yourself before making a clown of you and insult everyone's intelligence.

what intelligence? intelligence that is unable to realize that drivetrain configuration, no matter how crucial it is to axle position RELATED TO THE ENGINE POSITION, is less important to axle position related to the whole front of the car than the actual size of the front of that car???? lol, there is not much to insult I should say. you actually need space for packaging, I mean dont tell me that the laguna's axle would stay shoved all the way back to the firewall like that if the front of the car was bigger?! because thats what youre saying. and thats whats ridiculous so keep your adjectives to you and your post. its there where they belong.
but thats not even the point, I honestly dont know why did you bring that rwd vs fwd argument in this discussion when I only clearly stated that 'similarities' in axle position, which are only that on the both cars axle is closer to the door than to the number plate work only coupled with the similarities of the back. Otherwise it would be meaningless which was way too obvious to need any mentioning. Or was it?
and about billy madison clip - I actually agreed with you on what you said but it seems that you somehow managed to not realize that and got all defensive. I find that very amusing and ironic 'What a ridiculous, stupid, uneducated post' lol

What I do not understand is why do people care so much about what someone thinks about how a car looks or whether it looks like another car. I buy cars simply because I like them and do not really care what others like. After all, I am the one earning the money used to make the purchase. Now if I was only making such a purchase to impress others then I guess I would be concerned, because they may not be impressed. Otherwise, who cares??

you completely missed the point but raised very good question. yes, why indeed people care so much about others people's opinions on a car's looks? why do they get all upset? especially if the car they are defending is compared to another pretty car. it really is pure ridiculousness.

People are tired of reading this bullshit for one reason, the S-Class Coupe isn't going to be mistaken for a Renault or whatever that little ugly car is, ON THE ROAD. This whole thing about this looks like that and this resembles this is just mindless talking head nonsense. It clogs up the threads with big pictures of other cars and is generally a time waster's subject. WTF cares when the S won't look like or be mistaken for that other car on the road? Nothing could be more matterless.

He's saying the S is RWD, NOT FWD which is why the axle line is where it is. Damn.

The perception of design/style is entirely subjective. In the same way certain 'patterns' or 'indices' can make one sound highly unintelligent (weak grammar, poorly constructed arguments), one could actually be very bright, despite having all these characteristics. For example, if English was not the poster's mother language, it would be unreasonable for us to expect a very carefully written piece. My example serves to illustrate one point; that something as seemingly objective as intelligence can still often be quite subjective.

You might see a Beetle in a 911, but if I don't, and there is no definitive way to prove it does, design is likely to be subjective. Just because the patterns align in a certain way and convinces you that there is a similarity doesn't mean it's universal.

Can the moderator repainting this wall of bullshiting please?
This thread is mean for s-classs coupe and not laguna,911,beetle etc.

Why are there always some that HAVE to reply to the clear bullshit written?

WHAAAI?

Ignore it please! i cant scroll throught it!

Of course, how can someone mistake the S class coupe with the big shiney grille embodied around that big star, in all honesty all cars are looking like something they shouldn't but we have no control of it all we can do is correct the bimbos who mistake a Hyundai Genesis for the E class

I advice some people to watch their attitude. There is no need to sound so hostile and aggressive. If this continues, measures against such behaviors will have to be taken.

I must apologize for prolonging this ridiculous discussion by continuing in explaining the obvious bla bla bla bla........

More BS. You were stating that the front of the two cars were similar because of the axle position and that the S class was having the axle as much as set back as the Laguna.

Your own words:

front axle is shoved so much back it really is disturbingly similar to the laguna.

I took the time to add some lines to the pics, because you are unable to see what everyone on this thread is able to see:

I insist, how can you say they are the same and even label people here of "fanboyz" and talk about the intelligence is beyond me.
And that's all for me. You can keep twisting your flawed arguments as much as you want.

Bingo! (Except that the Laguna isn't ugly at all :D )

Man I have waited for this heated comparo for a long time ....

Let me start with the ingenuity of the idea itself. Basically when we compare 2 masterpieces of all mankind inventions of recent history, we must be talking about McDonald and iPods.

Take care.

Not even going to bother to read the first page or who started this.

All I will say is, some people have too much time on their hands, so many brands aspire to be like bigger brands and so many other car brands incorporate existing designs.

This topic is really tiring for those who are so obsessed with Renault, go and buy one instead of the Mercedes you dream about ordering but can't.

If you're so hell bent on wanting MB to do better, create your own automotive brand and manufacture your own vehicles. Instead of hating, try and do better.

/end.

Oh dear. I cant believe we are still going on about this. Yes the rear and the silhouette shares resemblance with the Laguna Coupe a bit.

-Those who think so, stop beating on a dead horse.
-Those who disagree, stop being butt hurt.

The car doesn't look any less beautiful because of it. Mercedes cannot be accused of being unimaginative because there is some brilliant innovation in that design.

I didn't remove it but it was removed because it is off topic. Don't worry mate, I got a message from him too.
