296 [2021-] Ferrari 296 Version Special and Special Aperta

The Ferrari 296 (Type F171) is a two-seater, offered as a GTB coupe and a GTS folding hard-top convertible. It is a plug-in hybrid with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and its powertrain combines a twin-turbocharged 120-degree bank angle V6, with an electric drive fitted in between the engine and gearbox. The 296 can be driven in electric-only mode for short distances, to comply with use in urban zero-emission zones.
Lambo claims 2.7 and 7.1 0-100/200. It was 7.3 to 200 with release. Mags have been quoting a lower number which isn’t uncommon as the car gets closer to production.

Temerario has more power, higher revs, higher displacement, a V8, better interior, more practicality, faster 0-100 km/h, higher top speed, higher dry weight/power ratio, lower base price,

It is AWD, 4l with 3 electric motors so it must be faster 0-100, otherwise its a weak powertrain, on paper it should smoke the 296 and it will be interesting to see what that complexity offers.

On the subject of dry power to weight, let’s do some basic math for the “tem will be quicker” crowd.

Ferrari PS 880. Dry weight 1,410 kg. Power to dry weight ~625 PS / ton.

Lambo PS 920. Dry weight 1,670 kg. Power to dry weight ~ 550 PE / ton.

14% lower.

That’s a lot.

However we all know here Italians take liberties with their dry weights. Add 150 kg to each for the real world.

Think the weight ratios might look something like this (I always use empty weight without fuel):

Of course with these hybrids you don't always get full power. So even if I get the weight right, the ratios might not be representative of real world use.

This is not the most attractive of Ferrari special low end models. I still think the 458 Speciale was the best looking and also I liked the F430 Scuderia very much. Both those cars had glorious V8 engines that made the most amazing noises from their exhausts.

Here’s a special one… The Ferrari 296 Speciale Tailor Made exclusively by @vialettiautomobili

In this configuration we’ve went with a bespoke bronze paint and paired it exceptionally with Vinaccia exposed carbon fiber carefully placed throughout the bodywork.

The carbon wheels are also somewhat special, using Ferrari’s transitional Oro carbon fiber, which assists in tying the colours together

And in typical Vialetti fashion, the interior has been upholstered in a tan Alcantara with Vinaccia details.

Agree on that, plus depriation. If it takes the hit in the same deraction as the regular 296, hard to argue. If you look purely from a performance stand, accerarion when rolling pretty much as the XX, for half of the price, but lots of production and easy to get. Really not sure about this car to pull the trigger or not. Maybee just the name is the most special..

I don't know why previous models hold value better because 296 in superior in almost every aspect, the only thing I don't like are the touch buttons on the steering wheel, but hard buttons are back in the Speciale.

I have an allocation but I’m in same boat. I think it’s an amazing car. But I can’t imagine there’s a huge difference to the regular 296, which I love. I had 2 458’s and a 458 Speciale and there wasn’t a big difference. This is similar as far as performance deltas. And if I really want one, I could just buy used for $100k off, perhaps.

There is, funnily enough, a big difference in performance feel from 296 to 765. 765 punch is stronger and more violent.

Yes the 765lt is still a beast and holds pretty well. Having the roofscope on mine, there are probably just 2 more with scope in my country, so pretty rare.
What make my think, the decision for the limited sf90 xx was easy and a no brainer, but for the 296 speciale, a lot of people think twice… I am pretty sure the car will be available in big quantites and later on the used market probably under list.
As you said 296 gtb isnt far of from the speciale

I’ll be interesting to see how much lighter the SF90XX will be compared to the normal SF90.

The Ferrari weight figures are usually far from the real weight of the car.(296 and 296 Speciale will probably have the same problem)

Not at all, pretty sure, the want have for the sf90 xx is more the wing, brutal exterieur and the limited production run. But if you compaire objectivly, the powertrain is almost the same. Minor changes powerwise, for almost double the price..

I guess, the biggest difference will be on track because of the downforce.

The price is probably high because of the limited production run, limited Ferraris were always expensive.

BTW did you received your XX in the meantime? Are you going to drive it on track?
