I think everyone else's S450 is a I6 and HATE MBUSA for doing this to the U.S. market.

Here in Australia we don't get the I6 either, only the V6.

The thing is most S450 owners likely won't care. These are the fleet / lease special S Classes. Maybe MBUSA is doing this a reliability precaution? Even though I6s are usually bulletproof.

There might be method to the madness.

Normally Mercedes would introduce a new engine in an old car first, i.e the S-Class, but they've chosen to do it in a new car the CLS, regarding the U.S. market. If they were worried about reliability I would think they'd introduce it for the 2018 MY in the USS-Class before putting in a lot of V6 cars at once, like they're going do for the 2019 model year.

The mechanical bits of the engine should be bulletproof, but things like the E-turbo and the whole electrical drive system might need some time to perfect.

It's strange that the S450 coupe has the V6 and not the new inline6. Maybe it's key market is the US also.

We don't get the S450 coupe, on the V8 and V12 models.
