Hot! Global sales: December 2013 + Year 2013 total: Audi, BMW, MB

What? Mercedes has made dramatic changes there and have started to post some impressive growth figures in China. Give it time. You don't just sell 200k more cars overnight.

Mercedes growth is also being hampered by production capacity with A, CLA, ML, E and S all in short supply.

Its actually the CLA and the S-Klasse in short supply. But they will be manufacturing the CLA in China shortly.
Nonsense for the E. Chinese market Es are built in China same as Chinese BMW 5er.

No point arguing. If you want to read figures on face value and not look at the goings on behind them that's your prerogative.

You can't sell cars you can't build and don't have production capacity for.

Chinese built Es are not sold elsewhere, so yes the E is in short supply in other markets as is the ML.

Interesting. I was at the Alabama plant the other month. They are devoting a new production line to the new C-Class and a yet to be announced model (I couldn't get them to tell me what it is though, and trust me I tried :P). I wonder why they would do that if they were having problems meeting current demand on the ML. It seems like they should focus on increasing production for that.

Yes you are right there , but the conversation was directed at Chinese market initially.

There was clearly a space between the two sentences. If I were referring to the Chinese market only I would not have started a new paragraph. You read what you wanted to read and replied accordingly to try to discredit Mercedes performance.

The other new model at the U.S. plant will be the X6 competitor next year.

M

Thats what I was thinking, but why wouldn't they just build them on the existing GL/ML assembly line? Since it would surely be built on the same platform.

Bad year? Its a superb year for BMW. Its a lot harder to sell more cars this year when you were selling tons of them last year

I think you misunderstood my post. I was comparing BMWs 2% to AUdi's 18% and MBs 11%. But I was corrected as I did not see BMWs 7.5% which is actually quite good.

They just made the changes recently right? Again, what do you expect sales to do in a year or so, double?
M

I expect growth that would allow Mercedes to catch up with competitors. I don't have numbers in my head but i think in that case even last year was better

Yes, from what I remember you should be right. MB's growth in China is worst than last year's.

Great too see GERMAN cars growing in sales volumes and Premium brands that leads the industry on everything innovative and technological.

Well done to the BMW Group, we voted for you to be on-top:cool: Also congrats to M-B and Audi - honestly any of the 'Big Three -Germans' has a chance to come out tops end 2014.

Let the games begin! And...mmm...could be M-B this year:whistle:

Actually in 2014 it could be only BMW :)

All MB needs to do is capture china!

THANK YOU @Amat46 that is exactly my point. Were it not for MB's dismal, albeit improving, performance in the Chinese market they truly are in there with a fighting chance.

That and supply issues of key product like the A, CLA, ML, E, and S to NON Chinese markets.

MB has the brand image in Hong Kong, so I don't doubt that they will do well in China.

@Human, don't worry BMW has it in the bag for 2014, 15 and likely 16.

Mercedes-Benz's AMG Division Posts Record Sales of 32,000 Cars in 2013

a2.bp.blogspot.com__tiuaOZsZWAs_UuucDY8ZpQI_AAAAAAAP8t0_KaFXpkx0xJA_s1600_AMG_Mercedes_16.webp

AMG has gone from a two-man operation that was founded in n 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, to a fully incorporated Mercedes-Benz subsidiary employing 1,200 workers and selling a record-breaking 32,000 cars in 2013.

"We are looking back on the company’s strongest year ever,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “This extraordinary growth has exceeded even our own expectations."

The German brand attributed its sales success to several factors including the broad introduction of the AMG-developed version of its all-wheel drive 4MATIC system on a number of models, including the E63 and CLS 63 AMG, as well as the arrival of the most affordable models in its range, the compact A 45 and CLA 45 AMG.

Mercedes noted that after its introduction, around 90 percent (!) of buyers of the new E 63 AMG chose the all-wheel drive 4MATIC technology.

AMG posted an overall growth of around 20 percent, with its two main European markets, Germany recording a 10 percent increase with the UK being up 40 percent. The company added that in China, 2013 sales were up around a quarter on the previous year, even though the new entry-level A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG models, as well as the new S 63 AMG 4MATIC, were not available there.

As for the future, AMG said it plans to enter a new segment with "a sports car it has fully developed itself" - it is likely referring to the SLC or GT AMG, a more affordable model aimed at the likes of the Porsche 911.
