Hot! Global sales: December 2013 + Year 2013 total: Audi, BMW, MB

Had no idea M and AMG were so close in sales. I just knew BMW sold way more M cars.

M

M's best selling model was at the end of its life cycle and went out of production in 2013. X5M(best selling M model in some markets) is no longer produced either.
AMG introduced its brand new entry-level AMGs in the face of the A45 and CLA45 AMGs... while BMW has nothing here. AMG has high-end AMGs like the S63, S65, G63, G65, SL63, SL65... while BMW doesn't(Maybe the M6).
All BMW M had during the whole year was an M5, an M6 and an X6M.
Still M sales are almost identical to AMG.

Worth mentioning is that AMG is now considered as a worthy alternative to BMW M which was never the case before. That alone could give a good enough boost in sales... deserved of course :)

Mercedes noted that after its introduction, around 90 percent (!) of buyers of the new E 63 AMG chose the all-wheel drive 4MATIC technology.

This is exactly why the next M5/6 should or will come with AWD. Order should be restored once the M3/4 sales get going...and let's not forget the impact the M2 will have! The 1M was in great demand, but short supply, but if BMW/M don't put a supply cap on the M2, it will be a sales star.

I had initially said that Mercedes would take the sales title for 2014 in the U.S. on the back of the S, CLA, E now and the C and GLA this fall, but I'm not so sure now. BMW is on FIRE when it comes to new product this year. I don't even think I can list it all, but in the U.S. between Spring and Summer they will introduce the 2-Series, 4-Series Convertibles, 4-Series Gran Coupe, M3, M4, all on the back of the new X5, 4-Series Coupes which are still new. No wonder BMW is hiring product geniuses. BMW is going balls out with product, my god. At some point there is the X4, X6 and their M versions. My prediction is that BMW will gain a lead over MB through the spring and summer, but MB will try to post back up come Sept-OCT when their newest products land. Either way the rest can forget it for 2014, though Lexus will be close. M2? I'll buy that!

Edit: Forgot to mention the ML and CLS facelifts also due this year.

Interesting thread, bordering a little on my console is better than your console :P but all in all a good read.

January Sales for Audi, BMW and Merc worldwide 2014.

The Germans continue the forward March.
The German automotive industry is such a powerhouse.

I believe before the end of the decade VW will also surpass Toyota.

Those figures confuse me. Does Audi typically have a weak end to the year and MB a strong end? Because in real terms MB outsold Audi in December, yet Audi had greater percentage increase for the month and higher annual tally.

Yes. Merc and BMW tend to get very incentive happy towards the end of the year. Certainly here in the US they go ape shit in the last few months to try and be the most popular luxury brand. I am sure that boosts their global figures at those times as well.

Here in Australia Audi goes absolutely ballistic in January and February, clearing the dealerships of all the possible inventory from the previous calendar year that they can.

Yea. Quite different here. BMW/Merc lead (or are among the leaders) in incentive spending and Audi has among the lowest incentives in the luxury market here. You would be amazed how cheap some BMW/Merc models are. Especially with leasing...

Very interesting how things vary from market to market. MB is not discounting their new vehicles (FL E, S, CLA, A, ML, GL) here as the waiting lists are long whereas BMW and Audi are throwing cash at models as new as the 4 series and S3.

A case in point, I managed to sell my 3 month old A45 with 4000km on it at a profit, whereas I was able to negotiate a nice discount off my new S3 Sedan. Before I ordered the S3 I spoke to BMW about the 4-series. Late last year they were adamant supply would be tight. By mid January the story was, there's plenty of stock available lets see what we can find for you and work on the price...

'Mercedes' China problem' - what problem?

And still the GLA and C-Class to come.

Yes, Mercedes has a problem - how to build all its cars. See the news on Daimler using Nissan/Infiniti facility in Mexico to build 'MFA' cars from 2017.

Yet, less than a year ago many were hastening to write Daimler off in total.
