The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986.
The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

Not really a direct competitor to the RS6 which is in a size class above and would need an M5 Touring to be a direct rival.
This car's direct competitor is the RS4.

Some weeks back, BMW M mentioned something special to be unveiled at Goodwood FOS which is from the middle of next week. No doubt this will be there...and just maybe something extra

Agreed. And a car not likely to offer much competition dynamically but from an everyday driving experience which let's face it, is where just about all these cars will spend the entirety of their life cycles.
It was confirmed in BMW's press release for the FOS that it would feature "the world premiere of the first-ever BMW M3 Touring."

This latest BMW M model will be unveiled at BMW M at Trackside at 10:00 am (BST) on Thursday 23 June, alongside a high-performance M3 Touring with Performance Parts, and can then be seen on the Hillclimb in the ‘First Glance’ category every day of the Festival.

Yes, I'll be there Thursday and Friday. Providing it's not lousy weather you will love it. I dare say there's too much to fully take in, in even two days.
If you want to be there for the M3 Tourer reveal itself, and aren't staying at the venue on the Wednesday, leave plenty of time for getting there and getting in, and getting to the BMW stand.

Yeah, I'm planning too. It's a nice drive from where I am and not too far so will be super early.
I was trying to get a space in the Porsche GB area but I'm on the waitlist. So it's public parking by the looks of it.

Doesn't make it a direct competitor. It's a smaller car with a smaller engine in a different class. Anything else is your subjective interpretation.
I assume those are the 'performance parking' locations? Certainly less of a trek in.
I'll be slumming it at the far end of the paupers campsite (where a campfire and Pink Floyd at 1 am is less likely to be frowned on!) opposite Goodwood motor circuit, it's a 30 min walk in from there, probably an hour if using the shuttle buses. Further than the public parking!

BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport")
was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful
