I'm going to have to disagree with you Martin. These current generation Maseratis are not worthy of the brand. Yes, they have great engines (other than the diesel, which is average), and they look OK, but there's too much FCA stuff going on, and the interiors are so average, as to completely ruin the brand for me.I dunno. There's something about Maserati's Quattroporte and - to a slightly lesser extent - Ghibli models that just innately appeals to me. They don't pander to any in-vogue design practices or exhibit the latest in interior concepts and yet they remain distinctively attractive and convincingly upper echelon. Objectively, a 5er is a way smarter choice and money far better spent than a Ghibli and yet - you'd get away with pulling up at a swanky porte cochere in a Ghibli. In an A6, E-Class or 5er you'd look like you Uber blacked.
When some people hit your 40-50s and have leased or owned various German or American cars, they fancy something different. Maseratis are sexy and have an arousing exhaust note. For me, as a car enthusiast, when I see one, my first instinct is - there's a sucker!
Nothing more sucker than driving BBA. Even grandmas and their dog drive one.I'm going to have to disagree with you Martin. These current generation Maseratis are not worthy of the brand. I think I cover your sentiment sufficiently when I clearly state that there are far better ways to spend your money.I'm going to have to disagree with you Martin. Oh yes. I would like to drive a quattroporte to a restaurant date.Would I want to own a Maserati? No. Would I want to rock up in a Maserati? Yes.
What's BBA?
I like Maserati for the same reason, they kinda exotic and not mass market like Audi, BMW and Mercedes even though ultimately they not as good as the Germans, They have a design elegance and flair that is missing in the teutonic three brands. Even the name Maserati brings an image associated with sophisticated wealth and drinking fine wine in a top Italian restaurant in Rome. They are a passionate brand with fantastic powertrains that bring alot of emotions to car lovers. My heart will say Maserati but my head will say Audi/BMW or Mercedes, sometimes logical things dont always make you the happiest lol.I dunno. Ah man - you sure are the master of the sweeping statement. There is nothing more obsolescent than BBA. These cars are leased, are worth nothing (status wise) when 3 years old, because they are not the lastest version. Only Ghetto Gangsters drive old German cars which they can get cheap because no pragmatic person will spend on servicing them.
More to your point though of being "worthy of the brand" looking back I can't think of a single Maserati over the last 40 years that was anything near class leading. If anything they've never been better than they are now.
I wasn't aware of this. Bye bye gorgeous Italian cars."Production of the Quattroporte and Ghibli models will be discontinued at the end of 2023.
