All three cars have been tested on two circuits. Porsche & McLaren on same day, Lamborghini for the previous issue.
Let's speak about tires from the beginning : Porsche on standard Cup 2, Lamborghini on Trofeo R. The McLaren did its first laps on Magny Cours GP (longest of the two test tracks) with the standard P Zero Corsa before switching to the same Trofeo R than the Lamborghini.
Car tested on Track for chassis but ESP intermediate did 1'48"7 with Corsa & 1'48"21 with Trofeo. Best lap has been achieved on a further run with ESP off... in 1'47"05. That's quite a gap. Pilot comments :
- GT2RS : good grip, excellent balance, excellent motricity and chassis able to handle 50 to 100 more PS.
- McLaren : most sensational engine he ever tested. More stable (in particular on braking) than 675LT & 570S. Understeer during acceleration + torque management not has good as Porsche = more touchy at the limit than the Porsche.
- Lambo : favorite car from the test pilot.
McLaren impressive on track due to its more "polyvalent" orientation : it's not a track weapon with specific wing and high load aerodynamics. Addictive, in-cre-di-ble !
On the Club track (shortest of the two). Here as well, the GT2 RS is relatively easy to manage and not the widow maker of the past. Overall, all three are a tremendous experience and do not get any specific negative comment.
Weight measured on test cars (full fluids, no driver) : 911 GT2 RS = 1515kg (Pack Weissach) ; 720S = 1454kg ; Performante = 1526kg.
Engine/Transmission : 1.Performante 2.720S 3.GT2 RS ; a little more turbo lag on the McLaren but impressive thrust. Best engine is the naturally aspirated V10 though.
Performances : 1.720S 2. GT2 RS 3. Performante ; you have the data, nothing more to say.
Road : 1.720S 2.Performante 3.GT2 RS ; Magnetic Ride works well on the Lamborghini and helps to exploit it on the road. Suspensions very stiff for the Porsche. McLaren in its element with great suspensions, most confortable, wonderful steering, motricity very close to the GT2 RS. Best tool currently available.
Circuit : 1.720S 2.Performante 3.GT2 RS ; great agility for the GT2 RS, thanks for 4WS and very impressive motricity thanks to its architecture. Lambo has great motricity thanks to 4WD and a great aerodynamics balance but does not like to slide/drift. 720S is the most rigid of the three and behaves like a Lotus Elise with 720PS. Easy at first sight, it is more demanding when you cut electronics assistances and get near the limit. Best brakes and accelerations.
Overall : GT2 RS is the most radical but not so difficult or scary to drive. Lambo is characterized by its wonderfull V10 and its good aerodynamics balance. It is well usable on the road. The 720S is the less radical and most polyvalent. It is nonetheless the most performante and the most effective everywhere.
