News and Rumors about Mercedes-AMG

This rendering look sleek & stunning, how ever we dont know how close this drawing will with the concept/production model. But I could see some cool features in it like the centerly placed exhaust, rear bumper skirting, sporty propotion with a sexy hip formation. As they hav only shown us the rear now, I guess the front would get some different treatment from othet siblings.

That video I felt it intersting as its about the founder of this brand. As there is no dedicated thread for 50years of AMG I thought of posting it here. If its inappropriate moderaters can remove it.

AMG up to nearly 10% of Mercedes U.S. sales

After numerous product introductions and explosive U.S. sales growth in 2017, the Mercedes-AMG performance subbrand is on the cusp of representing 10 percent of Mercedes-Benz USA's luxury-vehicle business.

It's a big leap in just one year — a year that also happens to be AMG's 50th anniversary.

Through November, AMG's 2017 U.S. sales have jumped 50 percent to 30,116 vehicles. In the same period, overall sales of Mercedes luxury vehicles dropped 2 percent to 302,043. AMG accounted for 6.8 percent of Mercedes' U.S. luxury sales in 2016, with 23,261 units.

Credit the new AMG 43 line for much of the growth. Mercedes this year finished rolling out its inaugural 43 models. They have enhanced performance elements but don't reach the heights of AMG's traditional 45s, 63s and 65s with their handbuilt engines. Nine of the 40 AMG models now on sale in the U.S. are 43s.

Moers: Sales of 63s also rose.

AMG's U.S. growth rate in 2017 has been better than expected, largely because of the new 43s, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers told Automotive News. But sales of the subbrand's 63 models also grew, he said. The midrange models now make AMG attainable for customers who can't afford the top-level models.

"It's going to be the best year for performance," Moers said. "It's getting more reasonable to have 10 percent" of the U.S. mix be represented by AMG.

The U.S. is AMG's highest-volume market globally.

More growth is coming. A new AMG 53 midrange line is set to debut in a CLS variant by the end of 2018. Moers also has hinted at AMG 53 models coming for the E-class coupe and convertible and the GLE midsize crossover.

The AMG lineup will see the next big expansion in 2019, Moers said. He declined to say how many models it will sell at that time. But in addition to other 53 entries, AMG is planning a new four-door AMG GT car for U.S. sales in 2019. It is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT concept that debuted at this year's Geneva auto show.

Exler: Ensuring focus on AMG

With the expansion of AMG, Mercedes has asked select dealers to invest in dedicated showroom space and additional training for what it calls AMG performance centers. Those began opening in 2015, and about 60 of the centers are open now, a spokeswoman said. Mercedes has about 90 AMG performance centers planned for its U.S. retail network, with the rest expected to open next year.

"We are extremely happy with our dealers, and our dealers are extremely happy with AMG," said Dietmar Exler, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA.

"It's not just about having an AMG performance center. It's also making sure — and many dealers did this already before they opened the center — that there is enough focus and attention on the opportunity that AMG models provide for us in the market."

Really???:D

The reason they have such sales is because they renamed 10% of their cars as AMG!)))

Yep that is true. There are C, GLE and GLC 43's everywhere now. I would bet that more bought the E43 this year than people who bought the old E550 before. It's a extremely successful strategy, but what cost to the AMG name?

All would have been perfect with this picture, if they had just kept it "AMG Sport".

A lot of those folks who've been putting fake "AMG" badges no longer have to. The AMG catchet has been diluted, but BMW is also at the same stage with growing line of semi Ms.

$$$ talks and people like prefer sport over luxury.

I’m one of those buyers! Have my C43 for about 2 months now and love it! But yes, it’s not a real AMG and have been tempted to de-badge it.
