News and Rumors about Mercedes-AMG

AMG is doing it right. They are taking the fight to all the higher positioned manufacturers. Mercedes-AMG will be extremely succesful. They are looking to separate the brand even more from Mercedes with logos, dealerships, merchandise, etc.

MB is on a damn roll and it's looking like no one can stop them at the moment. Hats off to the responsibles.

I think the should add a car between the GT and the R50 in order to really be there. GT, 4 door sports sedan, super car and hyper car.

The 4 door can be almost confirmed based on recent reports and there was an article about the successor to SLS, which says it will happen to next 4-5 years. And they have already started working on the current GT range replacement.

and here is the confirmation

600bhp Mercedes-AMG GT4 saloon concept to appear at Geneva

Concept will preview Mercedes-AMG's Porsche Panamera Turbo-rivalling GT4 super-saloon, due in 2019 to replace the CLS Shooting Brake.

Mercedes-AMG will kick off its 50th anniversary celebrations at the Geneva motor show in early March by unveiling a 600bhp-plus four-door saloon concept, known as the GT4.

Set to provide clear hints to a production version of the new four-seater, the new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8-powered super-saloon is set to replace the CLS Shooting Brake when it reaches UK showrooms in 2018.

The GT4 will become AMG’s third dedicated series production model line, following on from the SLS and the existing GT.

The arrival of the GT4 in concept form will complement the planned unveiling later in 2017 of AMG’s recently announced limited-volume, F1-inspired hypercar in what will be a pivotal year for the brand.

Targeted at the the Porsche Panamera, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé and Audi A7/RS7, the new saloon, codenamed X290, is the brainchild of AMG boss Tobias Moers.

The key with this car will be that it features its own styling and is not a GT with 4 doors.

This was seen in the recent video on Mercedes Advance Exterior Design. Is it anyway related?

If true, I expect it will look something like Panamera Sport Tourismo Concept, and not like a usual 4 door coupe.

This then explains how CLS (and CLS63) and 'GT4' will be positioned.

Perhaps SLC-type of car (718 competitor) could sit below the GT?

Also, are we going to be surprised if they add a dedicated, engineeried-by-AMG SUV?

And they're also supplying Pagani with the V12 and now Aston Martin with the V8, and I wouldn't be surprise if it was Mercedes the "very big German manufacturer" that Lotus CEO Gales was talking about in relation to smart airbags.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to be easy to place the GT4 and the new CLS 63 on the market at the same time (they even ride on the same platform!). I'm worried that those cars are too similar. Let's wait for the Geneva concept, then we know more.

They wont look identical though!

Of course not, but maybe too similar in terms of the overall concept and technology.
Both are 4 door limos with a coupe roofline, probably both are 4-seater, they use the same engine and the same all-wheel drive system. Interior will be different, I think that's a given but the rest?

I'm not overall convinced, but it's way way too early to have a final opinion about the GT4 :)

Mercedes have deemed re-trimmed or stretched S-Class saloons and convertibles to be worthy of the Maybach name, along with a car that's a mish mash of different G-wagon bodies... and it seems to be working for them it wouldn't surprise me that much if the GT4 was a 'purer' attempt at a CLE63AMG

So the GT Saloon is happening and it looks pretty cool from the preview but we shall wait and see how this panamera rival turns out in the flesh.

It looks good, but I am not sure about the glasshouse extending beyond the rear door...

It will be based on the MRA platform, according to various reports.

Slightly bigger picture.
