Designers want a more distinct Golf design (setting it apart from previous generations)

Not happening. Golf VII just arrived. The VI was short-lived but that was because of cost controls.

The Golf VII has been on the market exactly 2 yrs now so if they will bring out the VIII at end of 2017 then it will have been out for just over 5 years which seems a short time compared to most other cars (cycle about 7 years), unless the VIII will be a heavily modified VII just like VI was a heavily modified Golf V.
