VAG relied to much on China for growth and profits. China was the main customer thet has now turned into the main competitor.Interesting video on VW and its problems. I hope they can recover and start producing great looking cars again that give the Chinese cars a good run for their low money.
I fully agree.VAG relied to much on China for growth and profits. China was the main customer thet has now turned into the main competitor.
Attitudes have also changed. With cars, the way to express status was to drive a German car. In developing markets, attitudes was was luxury can only come from Europe. However now, attitudes have changed. It's now acceptable to drive a Chinese car in China and still be considered of high social status.
Here in the UK I see more and more Chinese EVs every month.
Sounds plausible. There’s no denying that BYD aim to put their cars into the hands of anyone who’s in the market for an EV.Meanwhile, Bild newspaper reports that BYD sits at an inventory of 340000 unsold cars in China .
I really like VW and hope that this ID 2 will be the car that turns things around for their EV fortunes. Having owned 3x Golfs (2x Golf 1 and 1x Golf 2) over the years and also having a 1976 Passat in our family made me love the brand in my youth and I still have fond memories of all my escapades in my VW cars. If this is close to the real deal then the ID2 could definitely be a car that will tickle my fancy and give me an inkling to restart that VW ownership magic again.![]()
A crucial car for the Volkswagen brand. And it may indeed be the vehicle that ushers a significant turnaround in the brand's fortunes. Reportedly to be priced, depending on configuration, between 25K-to-30K Euros here in Germany (not including possible future incentives), it could appeal to a very broad audience. Could the ID 2 be the reincarnation of the Golf I ? In 1974, that car, along with the first Passat of 1973, pretty much singlehandedly saved VW. I clearly recall them "being all over the place" here in Germany shortly following the official presentation.
Incidentally, this rendering is reported to be "very, very close".
That looks very very nice indeed. The new Gen II T-Roc is looking pretty sweet, IMHO:
