Giulia [Official] Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a compact executive car produced by Alfa Romeo. Known internally as the Type 952, it was unveiled in June 2015, with market launch scheduled for February 2016, and it is the first saloon offered by Alfa Romeo after the production of the 159 ended in 2011.
I agree that Alfa was chronically mismanaged, but don't fully agree on statement that Sergio's investments were a waste per se - as the platform was never fully utilized.

Lots of money was invested in Giorgio platform - only for it to be used in 4 vehicles (and only 2 of them Alfa-Romeo). I wonder if the situation would be different if:

1. More AR vehicles were introduced, in the segment above Giulia i.e. 5 Series, X5, X4 and X6 competitors, and possibly 4 Series competitor. Using the platform for 7, instead of 2 models, would help in bringing the costs down, and speeding up production.
2. The platform was used for all other Maserati vehicles (that brand also feels mismanaged to me)
3. The platform was used for other brands (Chrysler, Dodge), to an extent.
4. Another platform was used to FWD vehicles (Giulietta, Compact and Subcompact Crossovers).

Basically, I'm thinking of following VAG strategy of 2 main platforms, like utilized at Audi: MQB for A3 and lower segments, and MLB for A4 and above.

We agree. But since it wasn’t utilized further I deemed it a waste. The fact that it couldn’t accept a V8 (which was known from the start) or electrification was a major failure but it still could’ve been used more widely.

A heavily modified version of it will live on though. That’s now named STLA Large and is under the next-gen Grand Cherokee. That platform is set to be used on several vehicles so at least we know mistakes will not be repeated.

that was a short revival, which will follow by certain death.

Alfa came out of nowhere with the one of the best recent RWD chassis for the Giulia and Stelvio, but that was it so it looks.

Being one the the best in terms of sportiness was not enough for sales success. But FWD Alfa? No one will buy anymore, not even Italians. The only Alfa Italians will buy will be the rebadged PSA CUV named Tonal, to replace the ageing Giulietta.

Mazda will get the sad Alfa buyers. Stellantis will go bankrupt in 8 years. Even Jeep and Ram will not be enough to save them.

Very disappointed to hear about the Giorgio's impending demise from Alfa's line-up. Not surprising, but nonetheless, disappointing.

3er and C Class do these numbers in a quarter instead of 5 years. Very sad

From Wiki:

Calendar YearUnited StatesEurope
20172,72117,159
201812,04330,099
20199,44426,866
202010,28417,438

Compared to the Giulia, it's per-year number is better, especially since this seemingly excludes Canada/Mexico and JDM, China, and other world markets. Though I don't know what other world market Alfa sells their cars.

Surprisingly disappointing

Just too expensive.
And while I think its a nice looking car, is not ageing as well as others Alfas of yesteryear. 159 had ugly FWD proportions, but that front was the nicest on any sedan of the past 2 decades.

I still think the Giulia is quite a looker despite embracing more Germanic looks versus more the Italianate flair of a 159 or 156. In this class, the Giulia is still tied with the G20 3er at #1 for me, followed by the Volvo S60.

Not to mention that the fast lap in that video was not what was expected in the "am", we will have to see another,............ this car that returned to the design table I think a couple of times by mandate of the genius Marchionne, for not convincing its design and engineering, end up resulting in an exemplary model, everyone considers it beautiful, a Ferrari-derived engine, a handling that was put to the top and taken as a benchmark, a consistent interior (not very special but consistent) and so many praises, it even has a conceptual similarity with the German kings of the sales, Alfa historically is a premium brand of lineage, they enter F1 for promotion, they have dealerships all over the world of Fiat and the other brands of the group and not even with all that the Giulia sells well, I do not know this resists some analysis but the reason intrigues me and I would like to know why?

Will carry even the memories of the time of poor quality? the public was renewed, difficult to understand

Utterly desirable. Someone who bus this will probably already have an arsenal of other sports cars to care how fast the car is around a track. It being on the street will be the real event.

It looks spectacular. Wish it was reasonably priced and more mainstream. This car is like Jaguar's Project 8.

I'm not sure. Ignoring the price point: Yep - sure a desirable car to drive. Maybe also for collectors, who have infinite money and hope for increase in value ...
For the rest???
C'mon - this is almost 992 GT3 money!
But GT3 is 100 times better in any aspect you can think of! A GT3 is bespoke from ground up! The engine is lightyears better. The drivetrain too. The Giulia GTA is a Giulia QV without backseats and an aftermarket Sabelt sport seat put in. And this should have a 992 GT3 price tag? Seriously?

What you said applies to M4 GTS and M5 CS, so as any other factory tuned car, including the 911 GT3 RS. Even your beloved 911 GT3 is not a logical, but an emotional purchase.

And your ground-up argument is irrelevant. Acura NSX and Chevrolet Corvette are ground-up cars too.
