SL-Class [Official] All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light" in English.

The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

Dropping the AWD is anything but significant.

I saw a nice SL driving around the other day. When I checked the licence plate it was a 4 pot with a price of almost 300k.

That is indeed...insane.
I'd take a next gen EV Cayman over a 4 pot SL any day of the week.

I'm looking forward to the official presentation of this car. It just may turn out be something very special.

Where are you getting that number from?? That's way, way too much.

So a difference of around 343lbs or 160kg. Some of that would obviously be from the V8 vs i4.
Here are the weights of the M177 and M139 from what I can find from Wikipedia:
M177 209kg
M139 160kg

I'm sure there are a bunch of other gubbins with the motor; cooling lines and so on. So not sure exactly how much of that weight differential is down to the AWD system specifically. Maybe half. The 4matic+ clutch packs and diff are fairly complicated and I imagine fairly heavy.

Idk if the gearbox set up for RWD vs AWD might also factor in here.

My guess would be around 60-70 kg max. Which in the end still is a number you will feel in the car, but not in the extreme.

Very much over-the-top.

However, imagining this car featuring the under the sideglass sills sheetmetal of the production AMG GT is tempting. And "AMG GT Shooting Brake" has a nice ring to it as well.

The configurator for the Maybach SL is out and good that you have a huge selection of exterior Manufaktur colours for 11K Euros.

This is tasty Olive Green Metallic with 21 inch Maybach multi spoke wheels and a black bonnet with no Maybach logos. All 267K Euros of SL.

I like the white leather seats and rear trim with Maybach writing but they should have removed the black piano trim from the doors and the center console, that cheapens the otherwise good looking interior.
