M5 [Official] BMW M5 (F10)

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M
Still doesn't sound anywhere near as special as a BMW M car ought to... let alone an M5.

Doesn't Porsche add the Sound Symposer on the new (991) 911 and Panamera GTS?

Seems to be the unfortunate norm, these days.

Don't get caught by BMW Decietful Marketing. M Performance exhaust does not come with Competition Package. It is the normal exhaust, "sports" in comparision to 550i, that just comes with dark tips instead of the usual ones.

This is what i says *.... sport exhaust system featuring customary M twin tailpipes in black chrome that lend an unmistakable sporty note to both the look and the sound of the car.*

Surely it must change the sound too than just a black change?

That's what I thought at first but I'm beginning to think it's just marketing.

NO!!!!!!!!

"The package additionally includes exclusively designed 20-inch M light-alloy wheels along with a sport exhaust system featuring customary M twin tailpipes in black chrome that lend an unmistakable sporty note to both the look and the sound of the car."

Exhaust is exactly the same as on and the standard M5, only tips are of another color. Sound is the same, unless you go for the +5K M Performance exhaust made by Akrapovic, that is not included in the Competition Package and is not even in the option list. It can only be had through BMW Accessories.

Get it.

5K is a serious additional cost on to an already expensive optional package. Whilst it might be a drop in the ocean to those with the funds to buy and own an M5 it still appears to offer little value for money, maybe when it's tested along side the standard car we will have a better picture is it's substance than PR hype.

Hi Naas
Yip - but that funnels true sound into the cabin, not fake sound through the speakers. BIG difference!

I'm being kind. I don't know how much it will cost, but Akrapovic costs € ~5.800 in Germany, without tips. You yet have to buy the 4 tips which are about another 1K. And now I don't know if BMW will price its exahust above or below, or keep the price the same.

Complaints? Typical internet fanboy material.

"Ooooh, the CP so expensive" (as if you would be able to buy one)

"Oooh, it sounds so bad" (yeah, through your crappy PC box it sure does)

"Ooooh, Akra's are another 5k" (............)

Where have I been complaining? I just pointed out that CP had no different sports exhaust.

I know, you're not the only one on the forum ;)
Though you did make it sound like everything costs too much, haha

The M5 already has more power than it can put to the road in most situations, the extra 15hp (2.7%) power will be barely noticeable and is only for bragging rights. I remember an interview with Dr Kay Segler when the F10 M5 was first released. He was asked whether the M5 needed more power or AWD and he said: "It's a question of weight, it's not about additional power or torque... also the tyres are limited". BMW M managers seem to have changed their minds... again.

Sorry Klier but 9.000€ fot the Cp + around 6.000€ for the Ak Exhaust AND +8.000€ fot the CCBreaks = 23.000 for upgrades which should be standart for a M5 is much money.

On the face of it the CP don't appear to offer value for money but then again the same Competition Pack on the M3 didn't sound all that great but actually proved to offer real benefits if you tracked your car. So I'll repeat my opinion that until compared with the standard M5 its really hard to make a valid judgement.

That said when you add the brakes and exhaust to the price of the CP you really need to be flush to not think twice.

I've heard lots of F10 M5's giving it horns in real life. Don't sound particularly special to me.
Yeah, there is this one guy that lives near me that has one. I have been at a stop sign when he has gunned it going the other way. I'm pretty sure it wasn't full throttle, but it was enough to where I expected more noise then was actually made.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
