X5 M / X6 M [Official] BMW X5 M (F95)

The X5 M is the high-performance variant of the X5. In April 2009, the X6 M version was announced, with a 408 kW (547 hp) version of the BMW S63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The BMW X5 M and X6 M are the first vehicles from BMW M GmbH to have xDrive all-wheel-drive system and automatic transmissions, and are also crossovers as opposed to passenger cars.

Glad you like them :)

The grills are also different, from what I can see isn’t it the first time the X5M and X6M share a slightly different front ?

I do not think "slightly" but notoriously different, very worked and very well achieved in both (the white color of the cars in the photo makes it look clearer).
This new "courage" to make different cars that were "equal" before seems to me worthy (and better still that they had both cool), due to so much criticism from fans, journalists and buyers that in the end if they buy the X6 which is more expensive is because they want to differentiate themselves.

On the question, the previous generations had the same grill, so despite having millimeter differences here or there (I'm not sure about that), the fronts seemed identical, but they would have to be seen with a magnifying glass.

The new engine cover of the X5 / X6M competition, seems to have a beautiful and welcome retro touch.
A combination between the cover of the M3 E30 and that of the M5 E34

I wonder if it's possible to clean up visually enough of the engine bay so it doesn't need a plastic cover. At least the valve covers should be clearly visible.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
