X3/X4 [Official] BMW X3 (G01)

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.
These are all M-Sport models. No standard or X-Line shots yet? I've never been a huge fan of BMW's SUVs with M-Sport treatment.

Much better than the previous generation. The 3D rear lights seem to be a new design feature. I just wish they would be slimmer and not so bloated. Another thing I observed (also on the new 5er) , even the big/wide wheels of the M pack do not fill the wheel wells very well. With standard wheels, this will probably look even worse. This can at least be cured by some spacers.

A little underwhelmed by what I'm seeing thus far, though as @martinbo already stated the M Package on SUV's is something that has never really resonated with me. Looks fussy up front with the bumper as is.

Yes, we get it, thanks for reminding us three times :)

I dislike it sadly. The rest is pretty decent but not overly impressive. Right now I think *gasp* both the GLC and Q5 look better.
I'll wait for some real life pics and actual real life encounters to form an opinion.

OK, who hacked into klier's account?

I have to say I have mixed feelings with this right now. On the one hand, I see a greatly improved car which has an amazing side profile and proportions, and an interior that is much closer to the 5er than to the 3er (which is also a good indication for the G20 3er).

However, I do not feel the front nor the rear end. The frontlights look bland, shapeless. The kidneys are too rounded, and the M front bumper looks like a mix of all other M Sport bumpers out there. And the rearlights look somehow like the RAV4 ones. Can't stand the look BMW has given to this car, specially after the fantastic looking rear end of the X1.

Btw, I have to say this @SCOTT27, this looks nothing like you were telling us, mate. You know I mean no harm, but this is in no way more angular nor edgier than the other BMW SUVs. Which is perfectly fine. But reading your posts I though BMW's strategy going forward was closer to Audi, and after the 8er and the X3 it feels closer to MB, with softe designs with less lines on them.

Q5 yes, GLC no.

The car exhibits an interesting design. It is attractive from some points of view, yet it takes some time to digest. In some areas, lines are intriguing. In others, it looks as if the designers have tried too hard to make the car stand out. It is the kind of design that needs time to be liked and will make a decent figure when seen in real life, not in photos. It almost gets to the point where the mix of lines and surfaces end up in a rather confusing design philosophy.

It is not an ugly car, nor it is boring, but it can be seen as a rather mature design exercise that has gone a bit too far in some areas. More pics will give us the possibility to better analyze and dissect the looks of the new X3. Most likely, the xLine is the most suitable variant for the G01. But, I shall leave my final consideration for the moment we receive the full press release. For the moment, I feel it is a fine car.

P.S.: It is hard to understand why they have decided to change the placing of the model logos at the rear end. Until now, they were placed above the right-side tail lamp (e.g. X4 M40i), a signature feature of a BMW. Now, the "X3" particle sits on the left side, away from the "M40i" badge, looking rather strange for a BMW. Probably, other X3 variants could follow the same rule, with the engine version title sitting at the rear instead of front doors, like on current X models.

I would wait until the higher resolution pictures become available as well as the real life pictures on Monday.
Then you can actually see how angular the new car is. You can see that there are a lot of angular features and this will become clearer.
If you compare previous generations of X3 they always had a more angular and solid and robust design character over the X5. The X3 is surely the brands most active utility SAV with almost two million units cleared. The new one continues that ethos but X3 heralds the new design for the next line of X models.

The X3 has always been the runt of BMW's SUVs. This one looks better the old one, but that isn't a high bar. Nothing wrong with it per say, but it doesn't move the game one design wise. It's just familiar BMW.

The X3 has always been a bit of a step child. Wait until the new X5 and X7 hit the market. They will have greater newness and design innovation that will make the G01 look dull.

Aesthetics aside, it will probably be a practical, competent but fun to drive SUV. The Q5's design doesn't rock the boat but it's still brilliant.

It's just a shame that BMW didn't for once, make the X3 truly exciting. To make matters worse, we have yet to see it without giant rims and bumpers with big air intakes and diffuser.

It looks like shit. BMW should be ashamed. Let's start a petition to have the design department overthrown!

Haha...I kid. I'm a happy chappy. BMW have finally made the X3 look like the premium product it should look like and it bodes very well for the X4. It's not captivating like a tarted up Velar is (don't get be started on the base variants), and I'm not sure where it will ultimately fall in the rank of Q5, CLC, Macan etc just yet, but it's undeniably attractive. There's just something very slightly off with the front end that is holding back the love/lust, but kudos to BMW overall!

I really want to see more interior shots. Is the centre instrument display digital like the new 7 and 5?

The performance numbers on the X340i are just what they needed to be. Audi has clearly been caught on the back foot with the numbers the SQ5 is delivering.

I'm now 65% sure I'm going to buy an X440i next year!

PS...this blue colour is SO over. The Black one looks infinitely classier and sportier at the same time.

The SQ5's isn't as competitive as it could have been. It's both slower and more expensive than the GLC43. Surely Audi will give the 2019 MY a power bump or price adjustment?

As for the X3 it will likely be the driver's choice after the Macan which is critically acclaimed but is considerably more expensive than the rivals. It's in a league of its own.

Whether or not the X3 will beat the Q5 in sales depend on the ride quality. Because of run-flats it rides slightly firm and for many customers who don't corner hard, a comfortable and easy car wins over a sporty but firm one. The Q5 is popular and well liked - especially amongst families.

Even with adaptive dampers, the X3 still rides firmer than rivals. The GLC might not be as refined as the Q5 or sporty as the X3 but it's a very competent SUV and the most stylish one out of the bunch.

It's not long before we can play around with the car in a configurator.
