Have you watched the Chris Harris video or read any test of the latest generation of 911/Boxster/Caymann the electric steering is universally disliked. Read the Evo test between the Exige, Cayman & Alfa, the Porsches steering was criticised. Steering feel was one of Porsches big USP's, now they have from pretty much everything I've read killed it with the electric steering.

From my own personal experience the electric steering MINI uses in the Countryman is ok on it's own but compared to my previous Clubman is devoid of feel. Also if you jump from and E90 into an F30 the steering feels lifeless in the F30.

Have you ever driven a sports car? A MINI, for God's sake is what you draw your experience from? And that is similar to the latest Porsche's steering in what way? Why don't you go drive one of the Porsche's you mention and draw your own conclusions? I have. The latest electrical steering in those cars is not as tactile as previous Porsche's, but it is far from being universally disliked and far superior than similar systems in other sports car. You mention the Exige and Alpha for comparison, but we are comparing in this thread to the F Type. Are you suggesting that the F-Type has similar steering feel and linkage to the EXige and Alpha which are very focused vehicles with other flaws BTW?

^^Criticism for the new electric steering in Porsches need to be kept in perspective, yes it's not nearly as good as before but it's still better than just about any other electric setup.

Yes, the Jag gives more feedback through the steering.
That comes from someone who drove both the F-Type Roadster and some 991's on track.
All that is completely understandable. Electric steering SUCKS compared to hydraulic...

No, it just gives more feedback. To my personal opinion that alone makes a steering better.
Electric cannot be compared to a good hydraulic steering. The Jag has a pretty good one.

In the old days the debate was power-assisted vs unassisted steering. Yes, that's true but once upon a time people had stronger hands and cars were lighter.
Power assisted steering is good for today's cars IMO. Electric is TOO much.
I for one don't want unassisted steering for my modern daily driver... even tho I have one in my not so modern E21 but the car is DAMN light...
it still doesn't prevent me from cursing every time I have to park it somewhere

Also reviews in respected magazines like , Car, Evo, Autocar. Did you actually bother watching the Chris Harris video? Harris clearly said the steering was better than a 911.

You may think the reviewers are wrong but where is you proof, sounds like fanboy science?

I need to drive an older 997 or 987 to judge the difference. I know electric steerings feel numb, but they are quick and precise.

Also, very important that new porsches offer powersteering variable ratio for the city, not a good option. Skip it if you want better steering ratio for sporty driving.

Confession: I have not driven any of these cars.

That said, I tend to believe Harris' reviews above all else. While he has some of his biases, he just doesn't seem too inclined to use his bias in his thorough evaluations. Case in point, Harris loves Porsche but the fact that he said that F-type has, in his opinion, a better steering says something of either the 991's or F-type's steering set-up. He doesn't seem to fall into rampant nationalist bias like Clarkson does. If a Brit marque produces something that's inferior or there's an area where it falls short, he'll tell it like it is. And let's keep in mind the guy has driven many upon many amazing cars at their limits,so his point of reference is pretty well-founded.

My choice: a 991. Porsche are tried-and-true and as an owner, I'd like that reassurance. But I am glad a car like the F-type does exist.

Saw my first F-Type on the street yesterday. I followed along with it for a while. It of course was driven by someone that was old enough to be my grandpa. It look ab fab though. Serioulsy. What a striking car!

So, here are a few photos of my trip in @Kilcrohane's new F-Type V8 S. He's had it wrapped and I have to say it looks beautiful. Originally orange, it now has a matt blue wrap.

And here are a few videos. It's one of the best sounding cars I've ever heard. Simple as that.
