C-Class (W206) [Official] Mercedes Benz C-Class (W206)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206) is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class which is produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG since 2021. It replaces the W205 C-Class which had been produced since 2014. The fifth-generation C-Class is available in sedan (W206), station wagon/estate (S206), and long-wheelbase sedan (V206) body styles. The W206 C-Class is based on the Mercedes MRA II rear-wheel drive modular platform also used by the W223 S-Class.

Yes. And if they're smart they'll fettle with the facelift engine bay to allow that extra 50mm for the M256M.

Anyway, isn't the M256 much shorter than other inline 6es due to the ISG?

All of the excuses just seem like belligerence in the face of a mistake.
I would think so but I’m not sure. Yep I agree they should be working all out to fix at facelift time.

I don't remember a precedent where practically everything was going to be "developed again" around an engine change for an LCI, and seeing what an economic failure it must be, there won't be anything close to a business case.

Who says everything has to be developed again? 50MM is not much space, on top of that parts are already developed for the M256 in the CLE53.

The 2015 S63s 157 5.5liter V8 was swapped out for the M177 4.4liter V8 in the 2018 W222 S63 facelift. I can imagine numerous tasks had to be taken in the process. The engineers can make modifications easily. It all depends on the heads at the top.

If AMG could fit a 5.5 V8 into the much smaller engine bay of the W203 C55 AMG, then this is definitely possible. The length of the 4.0l V8 should not be much longer than the 2.0l inline 4 as its basically double that engine, but the width to squeeze it in the engine bay will be more.

I would leave the V8 out of the W206. You've 4-Matic plus and an electric rear diff, the E63 would have its toes stepped on for sure if it was still in existence.
There is a reason the competition isn`t going with V8s for the lower sister performance models with AWD. A 6-cylinder would be the best option for the C63s. The physics of a V6 has a shorter deck than an I6, The previous M276 V6 shown here from the first C43 has a very short deck and just from the looks of it, could easily fit in the W206. The problem is neither the M276 V6 nor the M256 I6 are hand-built AMG engines.
MB AMG could have invested in cutting the 2-pistons off the M177 V8 on a hand-built hi-performance
Twin-Turbo V6. (Dodge just developed a twin-turbo I6 Hurricane for its upcoming models, MB could have done the same. )

The C63 being a mini E63 is just fine.
It'll be detuned anyway to about 550 horsepower anyway, and we know that the M177 can go to like 700 plus without any issues, so if they need the next E63 (which currently isn't even planned), they can easily gap it by giving it 650 horsepower.

The M275 is a deprecated V12, which has now been replaced by the all-AMG M279.
I think you might be thinking of the M276 lol. Either way the M256 is just better than the M276 as a base engine. If AMG wanted a V6, it would be better to clip down the M177, than to build on the M276.

In an ideal world though, they really should be making an AMG-specific M256 variant to battle with the likes of the S58 from BMW, but I don't think they will. At least not for now. the M256M exists and is already putting out 450 horsepower in the CLE53, they can probably modify the engine bay of the W206 a little bit and stuff it in there, and tune it up to 550 horsepower no problem. Would need to up the torque figure a lot though. Its not outside of the realm of possibility for AMG, the question is simply _if_ they will.

Stellantis created the Hurricane twin turbo I6 to replace V8s. That'd make no sense for Mercedes, they would just need to detune their V8 a la SL55 vs. SL63.

^Either case I agree. I mean if you wanted to keep the V8 in the C it looks like there is room for it.
As I said, just looking at the engine bay of the W206, it looks like it has just slightly more room under the hood than the W205.

Starting from scratch would be even more expensive to develop for a stand-alone engine I6.
The ingredients for a bi-turbo V6 from the M177 is already there with some geek-tweaking. The piston and block pressure levels of the hand-built AMG engines are enormous.

The base is there from the M256, and imo an i6 is smoother than a V6.
Or if that fails they could take 1 bank from the M279, modify it and there you go.

I ask the same question, how does Belgium calculate fleet averages?!? Is it per model or units sold? If it’s a latter, I don’t think adding a V16 to a C63 would matter since they are a tiny tiny percentage of all C classes sold worldwide… thanks to an already robust VAT system employed by most of the planet!

AMG just don't have the kahunas to make another V8 C-class.

So many tuners can do it and even put a V12 in a 190E body.

Tuners can do crazy shit.
Unfortunately Mercedes need repeatability in manufacturing.

They absolutely can get that 4L into the W206. The question is will they?
If they can get enough of their fleet electrified, they just might on the facelift.
