Boxster/Cayman (981/987) [Official] Porsche Boxster (981 Series)

The Porsche 987 is the internal designation for the second generation Porsche Boxster sports car, built from 2004 to 2012. In 2005, it was joined in the range by the new Cayman fastback coupé (project 987c).
Haven't driven one only talked to my friend who is sales manager at the dealers and he says the new Boxster and Cayman are on another level, the balance and poise they have is unreal. Hopefully I'll get an invite over to Silverstone soon to drive one for myself.

I was checking out prices for the Audi experience last night and it's £499. I would love to experience the new Porsches at Silverstone.

It's the 'next level' balance that makes me believe that the new Boxster with the right power could be in a league with the very best like the 458 Italia.

You know as well as anyone that salesmen can bum things up in their favour but this particular guy isn't that usual type and is a fairly decent pilot, if he says it's other level material then I believe him. As for the Porsche experience at Silverstone, I've been invited 3 times so far with the last Cayman, 997 and Cayenne, it's a great time with 5 star dining provided and all levels of driving dynamics that show what the cars can done with and without electronics and how you the driver should approach different conditions.

Don't know if I'll get invited this time though as the dealer group was bought over and such invitation might now be reserved for potential buyers.

I tell you what i WANT one but i think the coupe means Cayman...When does the Cayman launch...I tell you this could well be the first time i ever buy a PORSCHE i was thinking off the Cayenne i enjoyed it but wasn't as good as i was wanting it to be...This looks a stunner i would love to drive this car every weekend...

It's the Porsche strategy. Let customers pay for the engine and four wheels.............and then pay for everything else that makes it a luxury car.

In this case I want full-LED as option.

Unless I am super rich, I will never consider any open top car. So when I say I LOVE the Boxster, it is because I am thinking about the Cayman. The thought of owning a Porsche makes me smile. I can't imagine how happy I'll be if one day I get it.
The Cayman will be revealed on the internet in summer, with premiere @ Paris 2013.

Thanks why do you say not a open top...

And yeah i also have so many cars i would like to buy lol..

For now ill wait for the new ML

Then ill look at a new A class early 2013...

I had a CLK 500 about 6 years back absoloutly loved the car....

This is just simply one of the best executed designs in some time. Closest thing to "faultless" that I've seen in a while.

It's too small for my personal driving tastes, but it would still be a contender, were I looking for a new car.

However, not the Boxster, just can't do a Vert, unless it's an SL with the hard top up at all times.... I'm talking about the CAYMAN here as well.

Unless you are super rich or unless you have any other car for winter?

Agree Sayyaaf, looks great in the photo's. Can't wait to see it in the metal. And the Cayman really should raise the bar since that car needed more help aesthetically IMO.

Liveries do look rather sweet on this car and will look even slicker on the Cayman which is due very soon.

Last week I was passed by the new Boxster in Knightsbridge. My god the car has changed. It was silver-greyish with the roof down. Anyone who calls it a poor mans Porsche should get their head checked. This is the first time I Porsche can genuinely be called sexy. Everything about the car is spot on and it has the star presence of a Ferrari 360 Moderna. And more importantly it looks like a completely new redesign as opposed to an evolutionary update.

I would even go as far as saying that it looks better than the 911 and stands out more. For its price, it is a stunner with only the R8 as its nearest rival.

100% agree with you. For me the 981 is out of my reach right now, but I compared it the R8 which I also like. Used an R8 V8 starts at 50K, so 981 is the better choice. I also think the 981 looks even better than the already beautiful 991. The 981 is really something new and not as common as the 911. If the 981 had the 400-430 PS 3.8l F6, then there would not be as single reason to look at the 991 other than for the badge, or the Turbo and GT3 versions, but again, if Porsche wanted, they could make the 981 so.

The Boxster and 911 are the two most perfect automobiles in the world right now.

Lucky for me, the temptation of getting what is almost as enticing as a 911 now for a fraction of the price, isn't in play, because at my height, the Boxster/Cayman(I assume) was WAY too tight a fit inside. The even small extra dimensions and size of the 911 are a must for me.

As a die hard 911 I am afraid to say that what you wrote is spot on. You have to be a car enthusiast to tell the 991 apart from the 997. The 981 however just smiles at you. It has the looks and the chassi. Like you said the handicap remains power output which I don't think will change anytime soon even if the car can more than handle another 100-150hp. Either way it's the sexiest Porsche money can buy.

How tall are you?

6'4 but very long in the torso. The Boxster felt really tight inside, and the 911 has such incredible room. I'd never get a Vert, so a Cayman would be the option, not sure how that will differ.

To be honest, I'm REALLY set on getting/aspiring to get a 911 next, but the ONLY thing holding me back is I feel a little vulnerable in smaller cars. Even a few inches of dimensions from the 911 are worth it to me. Also, the 911 is just still in a league of its own, IMO.

I remember we talked about that. Funny how people differ. I just feel better in the 981, so much more tight, for me so much more cosy, I really feel soooo good in it.

:)
