Boxster/Cayman (981/987) [Official] Porsche Boxster (981 Series)

The Porsche 987 is the internal designation for the second generation Porsche Boxster sports car, built from 2004 to 2012. In 2005, it was joined in the range by the new Cayman fastback coupé (project 987c).
I really need some help here guys:

Before buying the Lambo I was pretty much familiar with the car as the previous owner was a good friend of mine and half the millage was done by me.
I drove many Porsches but I'm not that familiar with them and I have never owned one.
I have no time to search other forums and if someone can answer my questions I'll be really thankful:

Porsche Boxster S:

1. Drivetrain reliability ?
2. As every late Porsche it's an evolution of the last one but is there something revolutionary about the new model ? (excl. design)
3. It has the same engine but 5PS less. Why so ?
4. 0-100kmh. times are almost identical with the last gen. model. The new one is lighter but doesn't achieve better results.
5. Same gearbox ? (I'm referring to the manual)
6. Does it have electric steering ? - I answered myself - Yes...
7. The new car will for sure be better... but will that be noticeable... ?

I really disliked the design of the first gen. I like the second gen. and for the first time I'm in love with a Boxster and I'm ready to drive this car for a lifetime!
Design wise it has won me!!!! BUT in the LP700 you can feel a big difference from the LP640 in the 458 you can feel a big difference from the F430. I know it's different but at least with this cars I know why I'm upgrading... Why should I buy the new Boxster as I can get a 2nd hand which even has 5 more PS and will be almost identical on road and track as the new one or even better in the FEEL department as the new one has electrical steering ?

Last 8th question: Do you think the new Boxtser is a bug fix, an upgrade or expansion? (in PC language)

Thanks in advance :)

Are you seriously considering the Porsche Boxter S (981)? Instead of your Gallardo or as to add to you garage?

I'm more than serious. I'm changing my garage in 2013 until then I'm keeping both the BMW and the Lambo.
I want a forth car as my favorite number is 4 :) I have two BMWs and I'm keeping the e21 Alpina for a lifetime.
I'm changing the Lambo with something better and I'm willing to change the 5er with an S-class if I like the new one.
And in the end I have girlfriends that drive my cars :)

The Boxter should be more fun to drive, but it will be slower and less "bling" :D than the Lambo. Wait for the Cayman, it should come before the end of the year. I think it'll be the best car until your wait for either then new Honda NSX, the new Lamborghini Cabrera or the new Lotus Esprit. :)

I thought about getting a used Cayman, but have now decided on the much cheaper Toyobaru. I would really regret the Cayman, when the new one will be 100 times better looking.

I havn't driven any Porsche, but I don't know any new Porsche that is not an improvment on the old one (except Carrera GT > 918 Spyder IMT). I am still the 981 S gets only 315 PS. If it had the same 350 PS as in the 911 Carrera...

An Italian should be replaced only buy an Italian..IMO if wanna replace the LP soon then get F458 if not then wait for the new Gallardo..you know u'll lust so much after that one.;)

Yes you are right about it :) That's why I'm keeping it until 2013 when the Cabrera should arrive.

if it weren't for the horrible winters in the midwest, I'd be putting down an order for a base boxster with $6000 worth of goodies (and live happily with 5 years of debt)
I just hate being a car geek :), it makes me too picky about cars and deciding on a new one is such lengthy process that eventually leads to nowhere ha!

I must say I'm really liking this new boxster inside and out. The paper specs sound pretty good, TT's, Z4 and SLK will have to play catch up again

To answer your questions. From some people I've known with a Boxster. Reliability is pretty good, but stupid expensive if you need something fixed, but that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Personally, I'd wait for the Cayman. I'm not a roof-down kind of guy, so I'd rather have the hard-top of this.

You got that right bro.

Absolutely beautiful!!! Front, side, back, stance, interior, damm every angle looks gorgeous! I can't believe that Porsche did put so much passion on the design these days.

I love it!

If the Boxster will not win the comparo it means something is wrong. I think the TT might again get an unjust victory.

Who cares, everybody and their dog knows the Boxster is the king when it comes to performance and feeling.

Best regards,
