Panamera [Official] Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo

The Porsche Panamera is a mid to full-sized luxury car (E-segment or F-segment for LWB in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Porsche. The Panamera name, as with the Carrera name, is derived from the Carrera Panamericana race.

The 971 Panamera is another one of those automobiles that look so much better "in-the-metal, on- the -street" than in (most) photographs.

During my recent extended weekend in Potsdam (incidentally, a great place for "car gazers". VAG "Future Group Design Center"-very much off-limits to the public but cool cars in the premises' parking lot ...apparent abundance of well-heeled aficionados...etc.) , I had the pleasure of scrutizing a pair of 971s' (sedan as well as Sport Turismo) parked in a row with identical glossy black metallic paint, 21" bicolors and chrome-line sideglass trim. Both gorgeous-and I couldn't say which one I preferred.

Oh ok, thought they were plus minus 10k all of them in that class.

Yeah the S is pricier, but for me to spend 90K on a based 340hp Panamera is ridiculous for a sports sedan. The S450 for the same money succeeds better at it's luxury mission. That's all I'm saying. The 4S models here are usually in the 140-150K range, I'd buy a M5 or E63 for that money. Now with that said, the AMG GT 4-door will likely be just as pricey.

An interesting article in the online addition of Auto Motor und Sport hints that Porsche is in the process of "deciding what to do" with the Panamera. BEV or PHEV ? Does it still have a place at all next to the new Taycan ? The current pandemic and its' possible aftermath has thrown a massive spanner into the mechanisms of product planning. My suspicion: the 971 will soldier on for the next 3-4 years with minor facelifts and perhaps additional PHEV offerings before being laid to rest without a direct successor.

To Ferrari with the FF and Porsche with this, they have done quite well with this intrepid new type of body, I wonder when other brands will follow in their footsteps
