Mr. Mercedes
Premium
Really? Why the hell not? Isn't this supposed to be a 'premium compact'?
When i "build" a Golf in the VW sites in Sweden, Germany and UK there isn't any better stereo available.Really? Why the hell not? Isn't this supposed to be a 'premium compact'?
So the new Golf is lighter, greener than before and... Bloody hell! How much it is it?!
No, really, I went to the VW UK Configurator to build a 5-door Golf SE 2.0 TDI with DSG and I didn't go crazy with the optionals.
I just added the essentials such parking sensors, sat nav, winter pack, rear side airbags, bi-xenon headlights and the stuff that helps the resale value: pure white metallic paint, 17-inch Singapore alloys, black Vienna leather seats, leather trimmed steering and a couple of accessories: rubber mats and luggage compartment tray.
The final cost was truly staggering. £30,914.00! I like the Golf, but for almost 31k and not even the GTI? No, thank you.
I would rather have a £16k diesel 165 PS Astra instead http://www.astonvauxhall.co.uk/new-cars/search/2741/Vauxhall-Astra
Golf is overpriced. (Like iPhone) But people like an buy. What is so much better in the new Golf (or iPhone 5)? Not really anything. But people think it is the most awesome product ever.
And IMO a bit overrated too. A good car, but for some media writers, it seems it ends wars, gives food to poor people, cures cancer and aids, too.
With all due respect, that sounds like you DID go crazy with the options. Sat nav, DSG, Xenons, Leather, rear side airbags are all luxuries. You don't need any of those. Certainly not leather seats on a golf.
I did NOT go crazy with the options. These "luxuries" should be standard in a £23k diesel hatchback in the first place.

Resale value? Well Idon't care about that because I buy new cars not with the intention to sell them. If not I'd just lease. And if to by usd cars, I on the contrary like, you can get very good cars for little money (VW Phaeton W12, Nissan 350 Z,...)
And IMO a bit overrated too. A good car, but for some media writers, it seems it ends wars, gives food to poor people, cures cancer and aids, too. The only really solid argument is resale value, but if I were shopping for a hatch, if I want premium I'll get an A3, if I want carachter I'll get an Alfa and if I want good price/reliability I'll get an asian.
