Golf [Official] Volkswagen Golf VII

So the new Golf is lighter, greener than before and... Bloody hell! How much it is it?!

No, really, I went to the VW UK Configurator to build a 5-door Golf SE 2.0 TDI with DSG and I didn't go crazy with the optionals.

I just added the essentials such parking sensors, sat nav, winter pack, rear side airbags, bi-xenon headlights and the stuff that helps the resale value: pure white metallic paint, 17-inch Singapore alloys, black Vienna leather seats, leather trimmed steering and a couple of accessories: rubber mats and luggage compartment tray.

The final cost was truly staggering. £30,914.00! I like the Golf, but for almost 31k and not even the GTI? No, thank you.

I would rather have a £16k diesel 165 PS Astra instead http://www.astonvauxhall.co.uk/new-cars/search/2741/Vauxhall-Astra

Golf is overpriced. (Like iPhone) But people like an buy. What is so much better in the new Golf (or iPhone 5)? Not really anything. But people think it is the most awesome product ever.

With all due respect, that sounds like you DID go crazy with the options. Sat nav, DSG, Xenons, Leather, rear side airbags are all luxuries. You don't need any of those. Certainly not leather seats on a golf.

And IMO a bit overrated too. A good car, but for some media writers, it seems it ends wars, gives food to poor people, cures cancer and aids, too. The only really solid argument is resale value, but if I were shopping for a hatch, if I want premium I'll get an A3, if I want carachter I'll get an Alfa and if I want good price/reliability I'll get an asian.

Resale value? Well Idon't care about that because I buy new cars not with the intention to sell them. If not I'd just lease. And if to by usd cars, I on the contrary like, you can get very good cars for little money (VW Phaeton W12, Nissan 350 Z,...)

Most people that haven't owned a Golf think this way but compared to the equivalent Ford/Vauxhall its in a different league for longterm ownership.

I did NOT go crazy with the options. These "luxuries" should be standard in a £23k diesel hatchback in the first place.

I think what Betty is saying is you are going to suffer BIG TIME at resale, almost all options are lost money and you've went for quite a few.

The same car in Poland in Highline standard including the options you specified (including top of the range NAV and Xenon) is PLN 127,400 which is GBP 24,500, the price include the Polish VAT of 23%, (UK VAT is 20%) and Excise duty of around 3% (0% Excise duty on cars as far as I am aware in the UK) if the Polish VAT and Excise rate were that of the UK the final price would be 6% less or just over GBP 23,000.

There fore go to your British VW dealer and ask for a GBP 8,000 discount. Alternatively just get the new A3, it should be the same price as the VW and the 5 door version is coming very soon. I think VW in UK through their pricing policy is pushing people into buying Audi instead of VW.

^ You can't compare differing markets to put across an argument. Betty is right in saying £23k isn't a lot here in the UK and add £7-8k of is completely mental.

What you should be saying is go to Poland and get the Golf you really want.

Totally agreed, buddy. I don't buy a car to change it in 3 years..... and if the argument to declare the Golf as allmighty is the long term ownership, how can it outshine a Kia with 7 years warranty? I mean, even the damm Renaults are now giving 4 years warranty, one more than a VW.........

LOL spot on!
I really appreciate the Golf but you are damn right :)

Don't know is this base model but it is definitely lower spec model compared to earlier (release) photos.

UK mags are saying something between 280-300hp, personally I reckon it will match the Audi's output but I suppose anything is possible.
