CLC [Renders] 2020 Mercedes CLC

Mercedes-Benz introduced the C-Class Sport-Coupé (codenamed "Peanut" ver. CL203) to Europe in October 2000 as a three-door hatchback coupe, based on the regular W203 C-Class range. The SportCoupé was spun off into its own separate line called the CLC-Class in 2008. Daimler AG decided that the CLC would not continue production. Instead, the W204 C-Class received a traditionally designed coupé added to the lineup for the 2012 model year, coinciding with the facelifted W204 sedan/saloon in the fourth quarter of 2011.
^ MB Passion explained it thusly: :)

The planned CLE series may replace the coupé and cabriolet versions of the current C and E-Class, according to which four vehicles (A/C 238 and 205) will effectively be turned into two later and none for the current generation will offer direct successors. It is even conceivable for us that the four-door CLE Coupé replaces the CLS Coupé. However, there will no longer be a shooting brake variant.

MARKET INTRODUCTION ALREADY POSSIBLE FROM 2023

For Mercedes-Benz, the new CLE models, which are supposed to come onto the market slowly from around the end of 2023, would have several advantages. In addition to a streamlined model portfolio, this saves important financial resources, both in development and in production. After the SLC roadster was discontinued in April 2020 and the S Class Coupé and Cabriolet will follow in summer, it's another step for the austerity program at the star. However, fans of the “Dreamcars”, which are often advertised as such, would have a harder time in the future, especially since the choice of vehicles may be more limited.

CLE model family unconfirmed

If the information in the Autozeitung is correct, it is unlikely that the current C- and E-Class will be able to launch a successor series as a coupe and cabriolet. It is understandable that the CLE model family has not yet been confirmed in Stuttgart. As far as we are informed, it is only a matter of time.

With the passage of the German governments' post-COVID19 economic recovery program a few days ago, I would be apprehensive regarding any new product speculation, regardless of manufacturer, that does not encompass electric mobility/BEVs'.

If they replace the C and E coupe and cabriolet then they will have a range like BMW, having the 3, 5 and the two door/four door 4 coupe in between. Might be better actually, so many coupes, the C and E are not as popular as the S coupe anyways, waste of recourses.

All these coupe and cabriolet cuts make me so sad. They are some of the prettiest Mercedes that have been in a long long time.

The only saving grace will be if the EQE and EQS models end up attractive and suitable 4 door alternatives. I suspect this may be the strategy.

I agree and I don't believe it. Nothing is official yet. I just posted the chat that MT had with Mercedes brass, the 2-door C and E models are likely NOT going anywhere as they do sell. CLE, CLC, it's a mass of stupid confusion IMO and makes NO sense. You can't replace TRUE coupes/cabrios with another sedans, it's just plain dumb.

It appears to be what the thread refers to, a CLC, coming from those who created the segment and with the examples they already has on the line, it will certainly be worth waiting for and seeing, the question is whether it will be a "quiet" CLS / CLA type or if they go straight to the extreme with something more like a compact AMG GT 4 Doors type ....
