Quattroporte [Spy Shots]:2014 Maserati Quattroporte

The Maserati Quattroporte is a four-door full-size luxury sedan produced by Maserati. The name translated from Italian means "four doors".
I agree, that would be and should be the perfect role for Maserati, but it looks like they're going to reach too far down market, not in price, but in specification. The 300/Charger chassis is hundreds of years old now. It works for Chrysler because they truly had nothing RWD to work with, but for Maser....NO way.

are we sure that the QP and the upcoming mini-QP (purported E-class/5er/A6 competitor) is going top be based on the 300/Charger? Or are they merely using their interior for testing?

Doesn't matter how it'll look. It's based on a Chrysler. Which makes it inherently wrong and overpriced regardless.

Again, has it been confirmed that it's based on the 300 (LX) platform? The only thing I've seen that my point that way is the use of the 300's interior in test mules, which doesn't say yay or nay on being based on the 300. The onky thing I've heard so far is the potential of a turbo V6, based on a Chrysler unit that's essentially being re-furbed by the good folks in Maranello. Unless I hear otherwise or actually see a derivative of a Chrsyler interior in the final product, I think throwing in the towel is a bit premature.

That said, I will say this though...if FIAT is dumb enough to bastardize the Maserati brand by gussying a whole lot of Chrysler bits, they might as well give away the money dedicated in development and construction of the car. It'll be a waste of time to build it and a sore point for all us car enthusiasts. And if that is the case, then FIAT is keeping the streak alive with woth their penchant for killing off esteemed marques like ALFA Romeo and Lancia.

I hope FIAT knows what they are doing. I don't understand how after building such awesome Ferrari they can blasphem Maserati. FIAT does everything only for Ferrari, nothing for Maserati, Alfa Roemo and Lancie.

Nonetheless, I like how it looks. I just hope it gets all new parts and nothing visible shared with other Fiat/Chrysler. For example I don't like that the Cayenne has the same door handles and side-view mirrors as the Touareg. The new engines are Biturbo V6 and V8 developed by Ferrari. I hope at least that is ture. And I hope weight is down thanks to aluminium chassis and body panels.

Yes that's it!

The car was based on a revised, stretched and re-engineerized LX Platform by Chrysler.
Chassis under engine and bottom are made by "Hydroforming" Alu.
Massive use of alluminiun by Alcoa.

V6 e V8 TwinTurbo are made in Ferrari

It doesn't matter for me if it was based on Chrysler or not as long as it looks good & sounds great. And from what i see, i already like this new look which is IMO much better than the current gen, especially in the front part. Only the sound is what left..

Maserati Quattroporte (MKVI)

- 420 PS V6 Supercharged
- 520 PS V8 Turbocharged
- 8 Speed Automatic
- FF AWD (optional)
- 200 kg lighter

All I can say is RIP Maserati. The Panamera has set the bar high and even on looks this new iteration of the Quattroporte doesn't stand a chance.

So glad the new Quattroporte remains a true sedan and not some ugly monster hatch like Panamera, A7 or 5 Series GranTurismo.

I'll wait till reveal and until I'll see it live, but it looks promissing. It will be unbelievable if they can make the new Quattroporte better than the current. It is nearly impossible to make something that is almost perfect even better. I think I'm more worried about drivetrain, chassis, interior, quality and all that stuff than design.

Just as I wished the current generation to get the 540 PS 612 Scaglietti V12 engine, I wish the next generation to get the 660 PS FF V12 engine, even detuned to 580 PS. But I know it will never happen.

All I can say is RIP Maserati. The Panamera has set the bar high and even on looks this new iteration of the Quattroporte doesn't stand a chance.

Though I have given up on Maserati as a car maker after the Shamal of the late 1980's, there is still a little piece of me that still wants this upcoming Quattroporte to be at least on par with the competition (no f-ing way, I'm kidding myself I know). I hope the money saved by utilizing the Chrysler platform means more resources would have been ploughed into build quality, the quality of the materials used, and the overall engineering intergrity of the car (yes I know, I'm kidding myself again).

But, the Quattroporte will still garner favourable press reviews despite all it's flaws and shortcomings because there is not one single car magazine that would want to be in the bad book of the Ferrari Press Office. The Ferrari Press Office will wine and dine the testers into writing positive reviews, failing that, Ferrari will threaten the testers and the publication they represent by banning them from attending the launches and test drives of future Ferrari's.

^ Ferrari is the most unjust brand with bad quality products. But because it is "Ferrari" nobody can say anything.

I disagree with this 100%. A car is not just the looks or sound of it, or even the impression that leaves after a first look. A car is a combination of the feelings that you get from looking at it and from driving it.

The previous generation Quattroporte didn't resemble any Chrysler model and it was a blast to drive. I highly doubt that this will be the case for this one.

This car is going to be a dismal failure if they try to use a Chrysler 300 as a starting point, it being a hand-me-down W210 E-Class chassis warmed over/parts from. I can't believe they would do this. Why not a dedicated platform for a new Quattroporte and a new Granturismo again? NO way they're going to use a Chrysler interior in a Maserati test mule if that isn't the car's base. Makes no sense. This car is going to be based on a Chrysler and it is going to flop around like a shark out of water.

You're right if it's about a car in general.
But what we're talking in this particular case is about the based of this car which some may consider it as a big issue & some may not. Maybe i'm the minority here who didn't care about it. For me, in this particular first impression case, looks and sounds of this new Maserati are the most important things to me regardless it was based on Chrysler or not. So if it's about driving impression or the build quality of the car , well that's another story..
Again, i think i'm the minority here who don't like the front part of the outgoing Quattroporte especially the pre-facelifted one. Of course it has a nice proportion & sounds good, but it looks weird & ackward especially the headlights which is looks like the weird version of Z4. I guess it's just matter of taste..
So, this new one, for me it looks promising & much better than the outgoing model. It looks aggresive but still elegant at the same time. So for the first impression, i don't care whether or not it was based on Chrysler as long as it looks good & sounds great & hopefully has a nice interior.

Seriously, I think the designers lost interest in the project half way through the project. I wouldn't say the car is not ugly, I would say its undistinguished at best.
