Supra [Spy Shots] Toyota Supra

The Toyota Supra is a sports car and grand tourer manufactured and developed by the Toyota Motor Corporation beginning in 1978. The name "supra" is a definition from the Latin prefix, meaning "above", "to surpass" or "go beyond". The 5th generation of the Supra is assembled alongside the G29 BMW Z4 in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr.
LMAO.

F'ing troll.

Yeah so sad they have access to the best 6 cylinder engine ever made.

Best six cylinder ever made you've got to be kidding, BMW's 6 is a fine engine but in a car which will be tuned to serious HP it's a bit of a pig, and very expensive to play with. In the opinion of many the Nissan RB26 is the king of the straight 6's, closely followed by the Toyota 2JZ-GTE and surprisingly enough the Ford Barra I6 will all pull a reliable 6-700hp using basically stock internals, get fancy and 1000hp is easy, no BMW I6 will be reliable at those numbers.

1000hp Skylines and Supras are a common site in Japan, how often you ever see a magazine featuring a 1000hp I6 BMW? I don't think I've ever seen one.

This Supra is going to be a massive tuner car in Japan, I bet most of the really powerful ones won't be using the BMW I6.

Where did I say Toyota would put there own engine in it? I said tuners in Japan will probably dump the BMW 6 and replace it with something better and easier to extract huge HP. BMW engines do not take to tuning like the RB26 or 2JZ-GTE, both of those engines with mild tuning on stock internals will easily double the stock HP, try doing that with a BMW 6, you simply won't be able to, any serious tuning requires the engine out, new heads, stronger crank and pistons.

RB26 vs 2JZ: Which One is Better and Why?

I grew up in NZ which is a country where tuned Japanese cars were the stuff teenagers and young men wanted because they were easy and cheap to go fast in. I had an MR2 Turbo with Toyotas bullet proof 3S-GTE engine in it, I had a confirmed on a dyno 340hp to the rear wheels, before mods I had 197hp, all I did was a bigger exhaust, larger intercooler and air filter, the car was then dyno tuned, if I could have afforded bigger injectors 400hp would have been within reach, all this cost me about 1200 NZD. The Japanese tuner industry is really second to none, it beats Germany hands down, there are some may tuners and so many young guys into the car scene the parts are cheap as chips, we get all those parts in NZ.

You grew up in the Netherlands, I doubt there was a car culture in that country, I've certainly never noticed it. As a teenager you probably rode a bike or caught the bus.

There's a reason why there are so many kits available to remove BMW I6 engines and replace them with Chevy LS V8's and Japanese I6's, it's because the BMW engines are great stock but shit when you start to play with them.

Why give it to journalist when it's still 9 months away? Like the NSX, by the time it's released, it'd be forgotten.

There's truth in what he wrote. The Supra community love engine swaps and the Japanese do right...

The Toyota 2GR-FE can make some crazy numbers, it's also the engine Lotus are using in the Evora.

I think in the US a lot of these after a few owners will end up with LS engines in them, they are light, fairly cheap and super easy to tune, all things which the BMW I6 isn't.

But Klier doesn't understand this market, he just thinks BMW is best and that all she wrote.

Its almost a challenge to find a Mark IV Supra in stock condition, almost all of them probably have 100hp more than when they rolled out of the factory.

Well, BMW used to be the only one with an I6 for decades, so it's not really a point, more like an...

You're all talk and very little knowledge klier!

When were those decades? Jaguar, Mercedes, Ford Australia, Nissan, Toyota, Holden Australia, Volvo, all made I6 engines for decades. I bet you can't find a single decade where only BMW made I6 engines and nobody else did.

Oh it's easily tune-able enough but that being done, apparently rather self-destructive as a con...
I don't agree with you. I'm knowing a lot's of guy's with BMW 335i e92 or e93 tuned up to 600 hp and they don't have a major problems with the engine (they say so).I have also 330d n57 tuned to 300 hp no problems in 2 years. And the car has 195000km. My good friend has x5 35d with m57 (286hp) engine tuned to 360 hp. Also no problems in 4 years.

No problem. Like I said, I have no real facts. Just anecdotes from a crazy bunch of people who really sounded quite adamant that they'd rather not have to time a BMW six.

Good point. I forgot about that engine. It's good for 400-440hp. The only major drawback is that max torque is produced at 4,500rpm rather than around 1,600rpm.

The GT86 was crips when it launched but now feels "slow" due to lack of low-end torque. It was actually one of the biggest complaints since launch.

Stop talking to me Kiwi. You make me puke

Awe poor little boys who knows nothing about anything. You still didn’t provide a decade where only BMW build straight 6’s, it’s a big statement to make when you can’t back it up, I’m not the one looking like an idiot.

If you are doing a cheap tuning and you don't know what you are doing everything can happen...

With the RB26 and 2JZ the engines are so overbuilt as stockmthat massive HP can be had on the cheap, just like with the Chevy LS, you Mate’s getting 600 from
an N54 are spending a lot more money than someone getting the same from either Japanese engine.

Jake's 2008 BMW 135i Build - BMW N54 Tuning Blog - Learn to Tune Your N54

This is an interesting blog about someone build a 600hp N54

This whole conversation, and I'm just like, why not Spoon engines, with T66 Turbos.... and NOS.... and a Motec system exhaust.

Yeah, unfortunately American cars tend to be obese. You have to wonder if BMW didnt consider that the power deficit of the European models would be compensated by the weight difference. It all bodes well for the Supra sub 1500kg is possible. For those who want a coupe version of the Z4 ...it’s the Supra.

A rather prominent rev counter. It's hard to judge the interior as some of the visible parts like the steering wheel, iDrive knob etc could look different in the production car.

I'll be deeply disappointed if the car isn't featured in the next Fast and Furious movie.
