BMW 1-Series sedan spied for the first time
Could ride on the UKL platform
The long-rumored BMW 1-Series sedan has been spied for the first time.

Set to battle the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA, the 1-Series sedan is heavily camouflaged but we can see a long hood, a gently sloping roofline and a relatively high trunk. The model also has a shark fin antenna and a dual exhaust system. The overall dimensions are hard to judge but our spy photographer said the car is "very small and short, much smaller than a BMW 3-Series."

Nothing is official but the model is expected to ride on the front-wheel drive UKL platform that underpins the 2-Series Active Tourer. If this is the case, engine options will likely carryover and include:


A 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol with 136 PS (100 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque
A 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol with 184 PS (135 kW) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque
A 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol with 231 PS (170 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque
A 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with 150 PS (110 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque

hmm. maybe the Mittelbayerische Zeitung (last sentence) meant this sedan:
"The plant in Regensburg is going to build a smaller car with a sporty character starting in 2017."

Edit - Never mind, thought it was a sedan based on 2 coupe, not the FWD 2 Active thingy, no idea how big or small that thing is.

Yes, I noticed that too. Typical of Gran Coupe designs.

scott, is the new 1er going to be called 2er in the future? To let space for a new 1er competing against the A1 from Audi? I don´t think, BMW will call such a car 0er....
