2017 Mercedes S-Class facelift spied for the first time
The Mercedes S-Class has been on the market for a couple of years so the company is preparing a facelift for their flagship sedan.

Recently caught undergoing testing, the prototype is in the early stages of development so the changes are fairly limited at this point. That being said, the model has been equipped with new headlights that feature three LED stripes and three light points at the side of each headlight.

Besides featuring new lighting units, the facelifted model is expected to have modified bumpers and a revised grille.

Bigger changes occur in the cabin as the car has been equipped with a more traditional three-spoke steering wheel. The dual display instrument and infotainment cluster is also new as it ditches the buttons between the displays and now features a frameless design.

There doesn't appear to be any other changes but we can expect upgraded infotainment software and several new wood trim options.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but choices are largely expected to carryover. There could be some minor modifications for increased performance and fuel-efficiency but we'll likely find out more in the coming months.

There's no word on when the facelifted S-Class will be unveiled but it is expected to arrive in time for the 2017 model year.

Hay, I just checked. Mine is a repost.
I think the face/ lift S-Class deserves it`s own thread. Mods can fix this however thay wish.

Front lights remind me of a Hyundai. I hope they didn't get rid of the two-spoke steering wheel. I think it is quite unique and classy.

After seeing the E, I am ready for this. The S class must be updated to be in line with everything the E will offer.

Good times for the 3 pointed star.

I hope they do no link the lights to the grille.

I believe these are the advanced LED lenses from the new E-Class.
The headlights do not appear to link with the grill. The led graphics already look like serious eyebrows compared to the relaxed looking graphics of the current S-Class.

The three-spoke steering wheel is available/optional for MY2016 and 9G-tronic (std: S500) will replace 7G on the current S-Class.

We are expecting one along with my G-Class shipment.

We have been talking about that for quite some time hoffmeister_fan.
Mercedes has gotton pretty bad about this. It all started with the latest SL. things went south from there.

am I the only one who thinks headlights in some of these upper echelon cars, as high-tech as they may be, are becoming overly fussy and busy looking?
I guess it's a matter of personal taste but I kind'a agree with you.

I think these very technical light designs are intended to express the electronic tech of the car.

I think these very techical light designs are intended to express the electronic tech of the car.

That is more or less a byproduct.
I believe it has do with the technology of lighting schemes these lenses are intended to produce.
This might be the reason for the fussy details, then again this all has to do with the designers.

Audi for example has come up with some technologically advanced headlights just like Mercedes. Thay don`t seem to be quite as fussy.

I'll miss the classy two spoke steering wheel..Why change it,it's style suits the overall cabin's style very well IMO.:(

The design of the current car is perfect, especially with those head lights, these newer design seems too busy, even if every element there is functional.

The crazy thing about seeing these photos is that the if MB is already testing face lifted version of the W222, it means the design for the next S-class is almost finalized. I wonder which design direction MB will take?

So far, the two-spoke steering wheel is the standard wheel, if you switch to three-spoke you'll be going all leather no wood/leather combo on the three-spoke.

Taking into account the direction their latest concepts are taking, I would say a more elegant profile, with very few lines, like the GT6 Concept or that last electric car the showed a couple of months back.

Couple that with a more aggressive front end, with no bug-like frontlights and there you have it.

In my opinion the most important changes are happening inside. That single display is going to be masive.

Does anyone know if they are going down the "gesture" controls like the latest BMW 7 series?
