Volvo & Saab Sale Thread

Re: Volvo Cut 6000 Jobs

Its really very sad, December is the last month a person would want to get laid off.

BMW + Volvo rumors (again)

Here we go again with the BMW + volvo rumor. On todays morning news they said that there had been recent contacts between BMW and Ford regarding the purchase of the Volvo brand. BMW and Ford on the other hand is denying everything.

So, is there anything going on this time?

Re: Swedish car magazine says BMW will buy Volvo again

So BMW will buy Volvo and a share in MB. So what's next, buying Porsche and the whole VW Group?

:t-cheers:

Aston Martin is still in sight ... BMW are more interested to buy remaining Ford's stake in AM than acquiring Volvo.

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

I just don't see the reason to do a merger/takeover of Volvo. Virtually every model that Volvo makes is either matched by BMW or in the works.

Ford is desperate to raise more cash- and every so often it seems like someone hoists a flag up saying Volvo is back on the trading block-
let's face it, everything is for sale if the price is right- but coming at this time when potential buyers, including the usual suspects, particularly BMW, are probably holding pat with what they've got....
I doubt it'll happen.

But, I've been wrong before.
:D

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

Isn't AM owned now by people with more money than BMW???? I don't think they are going anywhere for a while.

BMW buying Volvo still sounds good to me. Mini and Volvo could share so many parts, including drivetrain and stuff.

The minority share is still owned by Ford, while the rest is in the hands of David Richards, some English AM aficionado & some Kuwaiti investment funds.

With buying Ford's stake in AM BMW would get closer to the deal with AM regarding sharing engines etc. Blocking Daimler to seal the deal with AM.

And perhaps ... maybe Richards & Co. will be forced to sell AM (at any price) and BMW are waiting.

Mind the deal breaking issue was the Ford's remaining stake in AM (+ the right of first refusal) , and the price was too high.

Lol. That would result in a tug of war between BMW and MB, especially when AM's partnership with Maybach has been initiated.

Aston Martin is very much a target still for BMW no matter what the speculation regarding Mercedes-Benz is like.
There are people who have voiced discomfort over the impending share base with Maybach. Admitting privately that Aston Martin better suits to slot underneath Rolls-Royce and above BMW rather than below Maybach as Mercedes continues to refer Maybach as relevant when others see it as not.

The point is to get in ahead before anything begins as what Ford done to Land Rover immensing all technology and componentry with Jaguar.
BMW would have taken Land Rover back and fulfilled it's strategy for the BMW Developed Range Rover and gave it a V12 and access to BMW individual for specialist interiors. This would give BMW a prestigious portfolio of brands - MINI - BMW - Land Rover - Rolls-Royce.

Unfortunately to buy Land Rover you had to take Jaguar aswell and BMW's off the head plan - a complete clear out of the sedans and concentrate on Sports cars - Think Porsche . did not sit well with the Ford board.

Now with Volvo. BMW are communicating with Volvo.

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

AM would certainly be a good match.
Now is a good market as the Big 3 are trying to off load brands. Jeep, Hummer and few others are all up in the air.

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

About Volvo, is there any chance that it will be sold, and i BMW buys them, then is Volvo gonna share any components with BMW at all?

Second question, BMW should place Volvo underneath the BMW brand, but above the MINI brand, as a direct competitor to VW and Co.?

That would probably be the case

Volvo = FWD
BMW = RWD

Volvo would ideally become BMW's version of SEAT slotting in between VW and BMW in terms of pricing. That's where Volvo actually is today, their cars are much cpeaher than BMW, Audi and MErcedes' offerings.

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

Here, in terms of pricing, Volvo is concidered a good alternative to Audi, BMW, MB, since Volvos are usually ~5k cheaper, but definitely above VW and of course SEAT!

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

BMW & AM :eusa_pray (my two favourite car brands ... next to mini :D)

i think volvo would be better positioned near Volkswagen - neighter as premium as bmw nor as cheap as seat.
- urban cars for environmental aware people.

their FWD platforms would also suit to mini
i just hope that they don't adapt volvo safty measurements, they can definitly be a pain in your neck

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

VW is moving upmarket, as we can see from their products, thus Volvo would be the best competitor! As for the safety technology from Volvo, BMW, MINI and Co could benefit a lot from it! Whips and all those stuff!

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

Volvo has the potential for greatness, again, and I think BMW has the right stuff to get to terms with the two weak spots in Volvo's lineup; thirsty engines and a little dull road behaviour.

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

As a Volvo owner the last three years, i can confirm that they are thirsty as hell, but for an FWD platform, my S60 handles very good. But as far as the driving pleasure is concerned, then they need a step forward. Especially with those bloody steering wheels...

Re: BMW + Volvo (again)

I believe BMW learned a lesson from the Rover saga. I very much doubt they have much of an interest in acquiring Volvo.
