so this is the first part of my project
had some hard time finding the right background
so i used a shoe box
i darkened the room and experimented with different settings
my cam only allows me to put the EV flash settings to -2.0, but it was still to bright for my taste, so i tried to lighten the shoe box with my cell phone LED.

Try a large styrofoam box with a hole on the top where you can place a lightsource. Sometimes it works great for product photos!

You can also try photographing this object in a completely dark room. All you will need is a weak flashlight (I have one of those small "xenon-like" flashlights that fits into your wallet) and a tripod. Set the camera to long exposure (you'll have to figure out what works best in this situation) and shine the flashlight unto the object for a few seconds by pressing the on and off button ever second (or trying shining the light on the object for 2-3 [or more] seconds and then shutting it down). You'll get some interesting results.

And if you're really in a creative mood, try swirling the light around the object for a few seconds. You'll get results like these.

Looks stunning Christian!! Really like the reflection of the light at the plate…and it looks delicious!! Probably I will test such photographing in the dark too…should give interestings results…

Not bad. I like the two shots on the right-hand-side of the final image. They look very professionally shot. Clean, high quality and also shown from an interesting angle. The lighting is also brilliant in my opinion. Dark enough to surround the object in mystery but also strong enough where it counts so we can see the objects.
