Photography Your Photography: Photoshop Before & After thread

Thanks for the quick write-up Zonda, I'll give those steps a go soon :)

Thank you ree for posting that video link. It was fairly informative, but that actual website was VERY helpful in other editing techniques.... so much so that I pretty much learnt the proper way to editing photos, thereby literally reinventing how I use Photoshop to enhance my photos!! :)

Thanks guys. Great help!

I dont know if this is the right thread but here are two photos I changed in Photoshop.

In the first photo I turned the color into black and white and then I painted back the color, only on my car. Changed the courves and added inner and outer glow. I also used gradient tool to create shadow. Up to the right I added a motion blur to give the photo some effect.

My second photo I used a filter in photoshop to make the picture look unreal. I changed the courves and exposure to get the photo more detailed. Finally I added inner glow as a frame.

Agreed, that rich blue colour really stands out and gives the photo added 'impact' and appeal!

Even looking past the editing, you did a great job positioning the car and taking the original photo.

Great car BTW!!

Great editing Andreas!! Especially the first one with nice contrasts and the back & white / colour editing.

Thought about trying sth. new with CS4, so edited this photo this evening:

edited the contrast and dynamic, then changed the background with the selectiv soft focus to make the photo more dynamic. Well, small changes, but in my opinion these effects add a lot to the photo - and make even a 11-year old car look quite good.

Wholey smokes... you can create that zooming-motion blur effect with CS4 ? .... Shit, here I am fiddling around with Photoshop Elements v2.0. Damn, I really gotta get CS4 then!

Great editing Ihno....i LOVE that effect!!!

It isn't perfect right now and nothing really special - but not that bad, in my opinion. :)

Still have problems with the colour and the headlight. Not very well intergrated…will try to fix it later.

Here is a photo I've taken 5 days ago. I want to show what can be done with really boring photo by doing little enhancements in Photoshop.

Before:

After:

http://img39.imageshack.us/i/amolinacuseubiiit1.jpg/ http://g.imageshack.us/img39/amolinacuseubiiit1.jpg/1/

Although I may have oversaturated the image, this is just an example. It'd be nice if you had Adobe Photoshop CS3/CS4 just to understand better what changes I made to the photo.

This is what I've done:
1. Recovered the overexposed parts of the photo by decreasing the 'highlits' slider in Adobe Camera RAW and lit the dark areas by pulling the 'darks' slider to the right.
2. Increased 'contrast', 'clarity' and 'vibrance'
3. Separately increased saturation for reds, oranges, blues and yellows
4. Opened image in Photoshop and dodged the foreground with 'dodge tool'; burned the sky with 'burn tool'

That's pretty much all there is. There are no predefined values for anything, just play and you'll learn! Hope this was helpful!

Looks quite good…would have edited the "beach" a bit darker. It's to bright in my opinion - you have to look at it, although there is this beautiful sky in the background. Nevertheless I like the editing. The photo is more gentle now.

Worked on an older photo today…wasn't nothing special I thought, but I am blown away by the result.

This is the photo of reference:

I cut the photo to size, adjusted contrast and bit of gamma correction. Sharpened the whole thing up, also decrease the dynamik a bit and then superimpose a Yellow Filter. It's sad, that I didn't photograph in RAW - maybe an even better result would have been possible then.

Nevertheless I like it and here it is:
