Would get one over a MINI Countryman:eek:

If the a class is half Renault, than the 1 series is half peugeot

LOL at your fake news

On point...

Shutline is most unfortunate
Hof kink looks great
Grille shape is sweet
Headlights are nice
Front overhang is huge
Proportions are just terrible if you like RWD proportions
Interior will be very nice

BMW, stop copy Audi and Mercedes, you were the only one in this segment with RWD
Now? So BMW acknowledge what mercedes and audi are doing with their entry level cars is the right thing
Bmw on his knees. Lets see if an bmw 1 series with 180hp will drive as good as the new mazda 3

Yeah baby, mazda 3 is the king of the compact FWD at driving experience
BMW 1 series will be just another more polish golf with limited customisation digital cockpit, below audi virtual cockpit or mercedes mbux
Sad, so sad

Mazda 3? What about comparison with RWD F20 1er instead? ;)

Preliminary driving report: BMW 1 Series F40 with front wheel drive in comparison

"It is as remarkable as it is astonishing what the guys from Munich were able to get out of their front wheel drive architecture. The new 1 Series is not a BMW old school - but in terms of driving dynamics and agility it's much better than we would have thought was possible before our trip to Miramas."

The verdict is the ARB system (actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation; first introduced in i3s) successfully eliminates the understeer of F40, making the drive very stable & dynamic & steering very precise and very non-FWD like; while DTC in Sport mode even makes RWD-like oversteer ("slipping tail") possible "on demand". ARB also contributes to the better traction of front wheels (it works faster, better, and "in advance" compared to ESP) therefore the ride is more stable, traction is better, understeer eliminated. The result: due to more stable & easier ride laps are quicker in FWD F40 vs comparably powerful RWD F20!

Sound slike the F20 drives more like an AWD car rather than a FWD one. (y)

I would not use this guy Benny as a reference. His opinion is not the most reputable. And this system is only a faster acting traction control with no influence on the differetial, so cutting power in the turn won't make any driver faster. The dynamic is improved by putting more power to the tarmac not by cutting it. And for this is usable either a LCD or torque vectorring, neither of which is provided by this system.

Rival FWD hatchback manufacturers will be dumbfounded by the handling of this. It sounds game changing and the electronic trickery will transcend to the X1 and X2.

Colour me very impressed. While I relish the ownership of a an M140i, many drivers will be over the moon about how the new M135i will have much better traction.

The M140i has stability and traction issues over uneven surfaces and damp roads. However the might 6 cylinder and unadulterated RWD configuration makes up for it.

I can't hide my huge disappointment of this ruining of the 1er, but what could be more showing for the disgrace than the first sentence of the interview of the Project manager of the new 1er: "this project was greenlighted by the PREVIOUS CEO". Who would start with an excuse, except somebody who is not convinced in the final result.

Wonder why you say Benny's opinion is not reputable.

And it's your huge disappointment that makes you interpret it this way.

First impression of mine thinks that this looks good. I think the side profile will look good as well.

I hope (I've said that 500 times by now!) it'll have a TCR version.

By the way, BMW is having more "leaks" than my shower water tap these days...
