Definitely 3 variants with different power levels. Power outputs posted are real too. I think the writer got confused about the position of the electric motors. But the info is solid. Stay tuned, there is a bit more to share on the range. Unveil is not that far away either.
The issue is that a single electric motor will have only one stage of power, maybe two, but for sure not three. It's not like the ICE engines. The different power will come from the number of motors and the range from different size of the batteries.

Can agree on positioning but is there any word of dimensions already, indeed slotted between X3-X5 or X5-X7? Height seems lower than the ICE SUV’s.

Fair points, but it will likely have 3. It's not the first time it was reported. Same as the i4 will have 3 variants also.

BMWs approach to infotainments is aweful. It's too iterative with new feature every year that in many cases cannot be retrofitted to previous model years.

In many cases even dealers struggle with knowledge on what features cars on their lots have and don't have.

This is a nice render, it really should be like this, the others I've seen don't do it justice

Yes it's based on the concept which over exaggerates key elements. The actual production model looks less Renault and more BMW.

I don't know if this has already been published but in this magazine is new info:
Don't call it iNext. This is the BMW iX5

We've been looking at iNext, BMW's new electric SUV for months, but never in as much detail as now. The new model, in addition, could have already been awarded the name of iX5. We will soon know.
From February 28, 2018 and at least until February 28, 2028, BMW has registered in the European Patent and Trademark Registry, the name iX5. And it seems that the German company is ready to start using it.

Because everything seems to indicate that the iNext, the electric SUV that we have seen in the development phase over the last two years and that is going to mark the features of BMW's electric models, is going to adopt this name, thus unfolding the options in the X5 range, which would have its combustion slopes and with this iX5 as an electric version, just as it happens in the X3 with its electric iX3.

I'm not sure about this. The iX3 is based on the combustion X3, so the BEV is called iX3. But the iNext is completely different to the X5 range.

The Autobild article also refers to the car as iX5. Would indeed be strange as the ICE X5 has a totally different design. iX(5) also supposed to be lower than regular SUV cars. Range is supposedly between 550km WLTP for entry level and up to 750km (!) for the top of the range, literally..

Analyzing the nomenclature of the brand would be the most obvious, (although the design differs), but what makes me doubt is the fact that at some point they want to make an X5 like the one there is today but electric, then what would they call it .. ...?

On the other hand, surely at least in this generation there will not be a "classic" electric X5, a gap that will fill the iNext, which is why it could be perfectly called iX5.

I don't think it will be called iX5 as iNext has nothing whatsoever to do with the X5. The X5 name is too "old school combustion" to be used if you ask me.
Patents are filed all the time, most names will never be used, and if they use iX5 for a car it should be for an electric version of the X5 like the iX3

If we open that possibility, then they would go for something radically different from what is current in terms of names, it is interesting to think how they will put it, taking into account that they are managed with such a rigid structure in the naming of their models that dates from the first "327" what would be the options .....

This transition time makes all the model naming a bit awkward ...
How will BMW model designations look like in 20 years from now, when the last ICE has died? We are still taking 320, 340, 530, ...?

@bmwblog do you have any info about the interior? It looks utterly dreadful on the spy pics. Like a cheap W222 interior or so.

Hopefully people who has seen the final design can be more optimistic.

Production version of the concept. It’s very minimalist inside. The central “Curved” screen will be the biggest yet, to be accessed by the passenger. It’s a very big emphasis on space inside. The interior we have seen is a mis-match of current and pro type parts. The dash although identical to the layout in the spy shots is using moulded plastic parts, the actual car depending on specification will use leather and other premium materials.
The curved screen dominates the dashboard, itself a flat surface.

But not yet level 3 AD at start (as advertised):

" Even the BMW i4 and i5 will initially not be able to cruise the slopes autonomously at 130 km / h. Thanks to the software-driven further development, however, you can receive updates with new functions every year. The new BMW 7-generation will then start in 2022/2023 with a fully-fledged motorway pilot. "
