Choices, Choices and more Choices.....

The CLK was a great car. Do you need all the seating? Otherwise, the R230 is a fine 2+2.

I have been looking at SL's for years now, but there is something about this C63 Cabriolet. I'd like to have 4 seats again, but a SL is highly desireable option too. I'll get to see the C63 Cabrio Friday in NYC and I think I'll know what needs to be done then.

By that, I guess neither is out of the scope from a wallet point-o-view. I just love the FL R230 63. The way it knows how to waft and in the same package is capable when driving becomes rather inspiring. Not going to mention the lovely noice. I've had it back to back with the California and while they cater for the same needs, the SL surely is the better allround horse - it's quite the C-class when potting around town.

I dunno about that, this new C63 Cabrio promises to be a beast and lot more up to date. I just need to see it, which will be Friday hopefully.

If it's something a bit more beasty you are looking for, there are a lot of options, but I dooubt the new C63 will trump the old SL 63 for sheer "oh crap, these pants were white"-feel while still feeling very civil when going to the shop for milk.

Well we will have to see. It will be a Mercedes though if I do anything, that is for sure. A Mercedes convertible that is.

So now that my house is done and I've been in it for about a year, the new car itch has returned. I'm toying with the idea of replacing my IS250. Another friend of mine is looking to replace his 328i convertible so we visited Audi and Land Rover today. I drove the RR Velar and the S5 Sportback. The RR Velar is stunning design wise inside and out, but I wasn't exactly wowed by the driving of it. The RR Sport just feels better and more expensive. The 380hp V6 in the Velar is loud and not in a good way. The touch screens are slick as shit, but do I trust a Land Rover with all this sophisticated electronic stuff? There isn't a better looking SUV for the money on the road though. Man the First Edition model has an interior to die for. I dunno.

The S5 Sportback was far sportier than I expected. Pretty bad turbo lag off the line. Interior is stunning, and it drove beautifully. Comfort mode is good enough for every day driving. Seats, features everything in in place and right. Overall I really like it. The styling is again a major draw. In the right colors, the car pops. Oh well I wasn't blown away, you know what I mean like I gotta have this car, but I did like it a great deal.

Are you going to hold onto your 650i for a little longer? IMO now is not quite the time to get a small-medium size sports sedan/coupe given the 3/4 series is close to replacement, the C class range is going to receive a face lift and engine upgrade next year. What else do you have on your shopping list?

Marcus, stop nannying about. Mercedes Benz E400 Cabriolet. It's you and you know it.

Yes I'm going to hold onto the 650i. It's only got 38K on the clock and it (now) drives beautifully, and if I replace it I'd want a convertible. The IS is the daily driver and it's starting to feel old, which it is being a 2010. Maybe a FL C-Class or even an E-Class once they put the new I6s in. You know me I start a year out and drive everything I can afford so it's a long process, but it ensures I don't buy the wrong car. I'm always happy with what I end up choosing and this year long search is why. I think I keep cars longer than most folks so you have to make the right decision. Cognitive Dissonance is a MF lol.

Well after the 650i (i.e. sporty) if I went that route Martin it would be whatever the AMG version is, E53 with the I6, Cabriolet, that would be HOTT.

I have started doing the same. Nowadays I occasionally test drive cars to get food for thought and let reflections marinade well before I'm ready to make a decision. I keep an open mind to and drive cars I would otherwise not consider. The car you think will be perfect is sometimes not the one.

The RR Velar is stunning design wise inside and out, but I wasn't exactly wowed by the driving of it.

That's what I've come across in reviews and on some forums. It's comfortable as a Range Rover should but dynamically it doesn't make an impression. That aside, it's a very desirable car. Some might still go for the RR Sport because of it's more spacious interior and more commanding seating position. I believe both the RR and RR sport will get the dual touch screens next year.

When I test drove the Velar I said to the sales associate "this all-touch center console is cool and all, but someone other than Land Rover should be introducing this to the market first"... To which he nodded in agreement. I can't imagine the all the bugs the first model years will have.

Indeed, JLR's chopped-V8 V6 is probably the most unrefined V6 engine in a luxury brand. It's garbage honestly.

Yeah the Velar was a let down behind the wheel. There is no heft of a SUV there, or the lithe feeling of a sport sedan. Combine that with gargling engine and it's just okay in my mind. Stunning design though and while there people were buying. Look for them to be everywhere soon.

Wait for 850i Cabrio... I know you're cabrio freak :)D), this one won't disappoint you... :D

Probably a little beyond my reach when it arrives, but at that level right now I'd want a S Cabrio of course. I'm keeping the 650i though so a high-end purchase isn't the cards right now.
