NEW YORK -- BMW's namesake brand remained ahead in U.S. premium sales last month by a mere 34 vehicles.

BMW posted a 6 percent gain in September with 27,467 cars and SUVs. Sales of the 3 series sedan rose 19 percent and the X5 SUV more than doubled volume from a year ago.

Mercedes-Benz registrations rose 4.8 percent to 27,433, paced by demand for the GLC and GLE SUVs, which jumped 13 percent and 28 percent, respectively.

Mercedes figures exclude the Sprinter and other non-luxury vehicles.

BMW has a lead of more than 8,200 vehicles over Mercedes through September. But the Daimler unit is regaining some momentum after supplier bottlenecks at its assembly plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, left dealers with inventory shortages earlier this year.
Toyota Group’s Lexus brand, which outsold the German luxury leaders in both July and August, reported a 17 percent plunge in U.S. sales last month.

Demand for the ES, the brand’s top sedan, tumbled 36 percent, while the RX crossover, its most popular light truck, fell 12 percent.
Audi also slumped in September, with a 17 percent slide. Registrations of its best-selling SUV, the Q5, fell 41 percent.

I don't see Mercedes making up that big of a gap before the end of the year. The new CLA is just starting to roll out, but the GLB (the one that will really put up big numbers) doesn't arrive until like December I'm told. The GLS is also starting to rollout now, but the GLS 580 is still a month or two away.

Audi - 20,618

YTD

BMW - 289,080
MB - 285,800

It's going to be another footrace to the finish between BMW and Mercedes.

All Mercedes SUVs were up last month with the G selling over 1300 units in just one month. AMG GT up over 400% due to the 4-door I'm sure. C, E and S continue to drop.

BMW 3-Series sales almost doubled last month. X7 remains strong as does the X5.

Wow that is a close race. Just 3120 difference, Mercedes could either just lose it or win it by a hair this month.

I'm quite confident that BMW will wear the crown in the USA this year. Mercedes' fumbled GLE launch will cost them.

Although they want to make it seem that they don't care, they will do what is necessary so that the leadership they have maintained most of the year becomes concrete, at least in my opinion they know what to do, but of course they have Mercedes who does not suck the finger either
