RS6 comes with an ordinary auto box? I didn't realise this....
The 8 speed is great no doubt, but a car of this caliber needs something sportier.

From my experience of DSG and the ZF 8sp I'd say that there's little to separate them, the DSG might shift quicker but both are that quick that I can't notice the difference and as for the character of each I reckon in sport mode the ZF is even more willing to shift down.

The only negative is I doubt Audi have only the 8th gear as the economy because most likely peak speed is achievable in 6th.

I believe it has to do with the S-Tronic's torque limitation. Or at least that is the reason Evo gave why A6 3.0TDI with (479lbft) of torque doesn't use it.

Officially this might be the reason but aftermarket these figures are being far exceeded with no problems, at least that's what the guy who tuned my Cayenne told me.

After market guys don't have to worry about long term reliability or warranty.

And "oh, but my car with blah tune didn't have issues after gazillion miles" is just anecdotal. It means jack. Audi doesn't use the S-tronic in a single car with more than 479lbft of torque, while they profusely use it for every car with less torque than that (even ones with same engine but different state of tune). So they definitely know something.

But AutoZeitung will compare the RS6 with the E63 AMG S T-model in their new issue (out tomorrow).
I already know the 0-100 kph times: 4,0 s (RS6) and 3,7 s (E63).

Sure there comes more single, head to head, and group-tests by the Autobild, Autozeitung, AMuS, etc. And sure the RS6 has more power than the factory claimed, in some tests And maybe the granny drive that RS6 in the Autozeitung test, compare it to AMuS-test, LOL
