7 Series [Official] 2019 BMW 7 series LCI

The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.

The New BMW appears to resemble an animal. Which only adds to the luxurious and excellent design of BMW 7 series.

In my view this new design is going to change the way BMW is perceived. It certainly adds a lot of volume to its already masculine appearance.

Judging by the W223 prototypes. I reckon S-Klasse will get smaller head lights and a Grille the size of the BMW.
It's what sells... And the status the markets want.

That may well be true, but the execution is what matters. It's possible to do imposing vertical grille well, it's possible to do large grille small headlights well. I don't feel BMW have done either... and I think the later vertically slatted Maybach-S grille looks dreadful compared to the standard S-Class offerings, yet it looks pretty good on the various Maybach concepts --- it's not the principle of the large grille I don't like, it's just the way they've done it.

Also...

I love GCF's sense of comedic irony...

The rear is fantastic, but the grill looks so 'shopped' - too busy, too big! Especially when you compare it to the S-Class.

And since the new front is 50 mm higher, the car should have worse drag coefficient than before, shouldn't it. And combined with the higher weight should worsen the efficiency.

While the grille looks a bit stupid from certain angles, the overall look of the car is quite majestic. The rear in particular looks vastly improved compared to the pre-LCI.

As some here have said, this same car with the kidneys wrapping less around the bonnet would make the design a home run by all means.

@Matski actually, the rating system works quite well in these cases. While I tend to appreciate your sense of humor, it cannot be dennied it tends to be quite partial and always targetted to the same places. In my case, the old rating is simply an educated way of trying to stimulate your creativity.

Do you think Mercedes are abandoning the V-shape Grille in favour of a more rounded or upturned Grille to accommodate the new uniform headlight outline?

The two pictures clearly show the reference to the classic or pre-war model 303. The front consisted of grill and reflectors. Nothing more.

I'm not a fan of Mercs new direction with headlamp design at all - though I can see how it flows with the grille shape... but as far as the grille itself goes, what they seem to be doing differently is setting the grille more "in" to the car, it looks more integral, the 7-er's grille looks more like it's been placed on top of the design - and this is emphasized by the visual weight of the grille surround, and the fact the head lamps tuck in behind it, I agree with the comment above, it looks 'shopped on.

Fair enough. I personally feel the old rating is the most misused one, it was changed not that long ago to make its use clearer, and that use is to express dissatisfaction with people posting old information.. i.e. "information" that is not "new"... yet it's still habitually used as a way to dismiss opinions as invalid. If someone disagrees or dislikes something, use those... that's all I'm saying... also FWIW... Whiskey... Whiskey stimulates my creativity ;) (y)

The 5cm increase in height applies to the car nose tip only (vs the pre-LCI 7er model). (y)

That 5 cm is disgusting and is part of why the front looks weird from certain angles. It's not the big grille for me, but the box-like appearance....

Not fair since MB doesn't have an S-based SUV.

And you thought the X7 is based on a 7er or something when in reality it's the X5's ugly brother?

SOME QUOTES FROM bmwblog.com comparing the 7 series with the S-Class and the A8

"is more visually interesting than the 7 Series it replaces but also more vulgar than the S-Class".
"At the front, it’s no question — the Benz is the better looking car."
"Overall, though, if I had to choose one it’d be the Benz."

"So which car wins the grille-off? I think it’s the Audi A8. While its grille is seriously massive, it at least sort of fits the car"
The BMW 7 Series LCI looks better than the car it replaces but it’s still not great looking and those massive Kidneys look comical, as if they’re caricatures of the real ones. So for that reason, the Audi A8 is declared grille champion

With this are already like 7 diferent BMW models that have visually compared in bmwblog.com and guess what? according to them the 7 of the competition are more beautiful than the BMW counterparts Yes 7 to 0. Do not miss the aesthetic comparison of the 7 series against Lexus, or Ssang Yong, even if you guess the result!! ....

I only accept impartiality and this is not, neither one nor the other, but this is pure BULLSHIT.
Adrian and his team continue striving maybe one day they will like them...

As someone else posted before in the forum, the site in reference should be called different, instead of "BMWblog" something like "alltheothersaremorebeautiful.com"

I believe we should fund a site that only writes the stuff we like to read. A website that bans any negative comment about our brand.

It would not be objective, but it would be funny.

Why? Cause one author has a different opinion? He clearly stated his preference and we had this discussion before - design is subjective. You ask 10 people about the new 7 Series and almost certain you won't get a majority vote.

Go on a Benz forum now, and you're likely getting that the S is better. Go on a BMW forum and you will get that the 7 is better. You can't win when it comes to design.

Agreed. If we were to start banning all the negative comments about BMW we get every day, where will that get us? Clearly people are vocal these days and that's good for any brand. It's called feedback and it should be listened to.

When we write negative about Tesla, their fanboys slam us. When we write something positive about them, BMW fans jump all over the article to point out Tesla's shortcomings.

Anyway, I, HB, personally like the 7 Series grille, but maybe cause I heard the story behind it before and got some insight. There are plenty of other cars that I didn't like initially - Z4 - and others did.

I would assume that Nico will also post a similar article on Quattro Daily... therefore from the point of view of one site or the other.. he's going to be biased one way or another... at the end of the day, it's an opinion piece on two opposing brand biased blogs - it's a no win situation for the author.

I say this as a light hearted observation and nothing more... I assume you post Tesla articles when site traffic slows a little - those articles always seem to explode!

The funny thing is that while a lot of people seem to have serious doubts about the grille, the overall style is being praised.

Pics like the one Scott has posted show the car has gained in style and character.
