1 Series [Official] BMW 1 Series Sedan [Chinese Market Exclusive]

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
The AMS 21/2015 supports Scott's information (translated from german)

"As would be the 2er Gran Coupe. The great success of the Mercedes CLA inspired fiddle the BMW product planners at a four-door entry model below the 3 Series, which will appeal to young customers. The moderate space of CLA seems not to bother, so should also the expected rear-wheel drive BMW rather sporty and dynamic, therefore, come and indulge less with space. It is based on the next generation of 2er that comes on the market from of 2019. Since BMW has made in the higher classes with four-door, coupé-like cut limousines very good experience, chances are good that it will be built."

Why has this press release been thrown out in such a rush?

The sole photo in the press release is clearly not of a production vehicle, or at least not up to usual standards.

Not sure how familar people are with photoshopping stuff, but this is evidence of really lazy masking, prior to the body colour being changed to this shade of blue.

and more...

And why is there lens flare? Photo's like this from BMW don't normally have any...

f523.webp

Compare that, to this shot from the M140 press release...

f524.webp

Here, something has been really badly erased leaving a white block where it should be graduated with the shade behind the car....

f526.webp

Bad blend on some something, why is the door shut-line being photoshopped at all?

f527.webp

More bad masking...

Really lazy masking of the background...

...

All in all, this press release photo looks like it was bad photo, taken of a car outside a studio environment. and touched up quickly in order to knock out the press-release in a rush..

so my question again, what was the rush? Why send out a release before the car's had any proper time in a photographic studio, or on location shoot?

Very interesting observations. Probably, the Chinese only look at the roundel and the price. The rest doesn't matter.

It doesn't make sense. Whatever corners they cut to save money per production unit could possibly be put down "because China" or "Beta test" or whatever... but this is sloppy work that could have been done better in a couple of hours by an apprentice designer with access to Photoshop... and saves hardly any time, and precisely bugger all money. Why be so sloppy for such a key model? A model BMW are trying to convince us is fully up to the Germanic BMW standards? This is the first official exposure the public there is no need to be sloppy.

Maybe that is a Chinese copy of the real car!:ROFLMAO: But a bad copy!

Honestly i thought the press release was leaked given how amateurish and sloppy it's, Matski's photos observations made it even worse.

EDIT: Even on their press site only two photos have been released, why is that Scott ?

This is some sort of introductory preview but there is full introduction as well as large China based press launch event coming up for the F52 prior to launch in September.
You have seen how BMW launches in China are quite possibly huge events. And there is no doubt F52 is huge for China as well as being huge for BMW.
The first picture to me looks like one of those digital cars they use for configurations.

How long is the lifecycle for this car? I expect something close to 4 years, as this is really an experiment for BMW

But why is the photo so crap Scoot? Why?!! Why?!! Especially when this car is so super doopa mega important and that.

Scoot does not always post reliable information, so treat with caution.

This is in the information a got...
1er Gran Coupé(LU Plattform mit Frontantrieb und 4 rahmenlosen Türen / LU Platform with FWD and 4 frameless doors)

In which i think it should be called 2er GC..

Maybe they changed their opinion in the last year, but both 1er hatch and this derivate is requested to us as FWD :-)

For some reason, It doesn't seem very cost effective for only 3 models (2er coupe, cab and GC) to be made from a single RWD existing platform (KKL)

Since it isn't based on the CLAR platform, It seems like a lot of machinery and output would be dedicated for only 3 models within BMW's expanding range.

Financially speaking, the UKL platform makes sense because quite a lot of BMW models (unfortunately) are going to be based on this.

If more than 3 models, such as a 3 & 5 door hatch and/or a Gran tourism model, also shared it, it would seem beneficial to BMW to carry on with the platform.

But only 3 models? hmmmm
