Results for three large luxury cars put through the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's small overlap front test for the first time are a mixed bag, with the Infiniti Q70 achieving a good rating, the Lincoln MKS earning a poor rating, and the BMW 5 series earning a marginal. The MKS and 5 series are the worst performers out of seven large luxury cars tested so far for small overlap protection.

In history Volvo and MB were the pioneers. In the last decenias all brands invested a lot in safety. BMW performed sometimes even better than MB (the last 3 series against the C-class in 2012).

With a lifecycle of +/- 7 years all cars perform better when a new model is introduced.

So stating safaty isn't on BMWs focus or that BMW isn't investing enough in safety is nonsence.

The small overlap test was introduced in US in 2012. This is the only issue the 5er had a poor result on.

Secondly, don't talk about BMW needed a "facelift" for good results or that MB didn't need this.

I remember some active safety features on a car that failed the "Eland"test and the poor crash results of the MB

Nope, it isn't nonsense. They only got into it once they started flunking tests as with the previous E60 5-Series. Google it.

What is nonsense is a link about a van that isn't even a true Mercedes design. That is nonsense.

The 3-Series was marginal is that same test vs poor for the Mercedes, big difference. NOT.

So you are suggesting certain car makes design their car safety around standardized crash tests established only by the governments? Seems short sighted and certainly not a mark for a brand that has safety on its agenda.
