5 Series (F10/F11/F07/F18) [Official] BMW 5 Series F10 Facelift

The BMW F10/F11/F07/F18 is the sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series, manufactured for model years 2010–2017. The body styles of the range are: 4-door sedan/saloon (F10), 5-door estate/wagon (F11, marketed as "Touring"), 5-door fastback (F07, marketed as "Gran Turismo"), and 4-door long wheelbase sedan (F18, sold only in China and the Middle East).
So you are suggesting certain car makes design their car safety around standardized crash tests established only by the governments? Seems short sighted and certainly not a mark for a brand that has safety on its agenda.

Right which is right where the industry is today. Car flunks a test, redesign a few components to get a better rating. I'll take the cars that are engineered for real world crashes, the ones that examine their own cars after a real world accident. Not to say BMW isn't safe, I know they are as are all cars....to a degree.

My wife and I are going to check a BMW 5er touring this weekend. She's not sure if she's going to wait for the Volvo V90.
Let's see how things evolve :-)

I find it a great car and I'm pretty sure you will like it. Integral Active Steering is a great feature that I would not want to miss. Have fun!

Oh not these special editions again. Sounds like something for the Australia market only.
Remember the tiger version of M3 E92 offered in China?

I kinda like these special editions. I think it is a good idea to make a cheaper model by doing away with equipment and optional items that add weight and cost to the car.

The only options I'd add back to the car are full leather interior and ventilated front seats.

Not just the "Pure" special edition. There are also the "Nighthawk" and "Shadow" special editions.

I think somebody somewhere is taking the piss.

2016 BMW 5 Series earns five-star safety rating

The 2016 BMW 5 Series sedan earned the highest five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 5 Series received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and five stars in the rollover crash test. The crash test rating was “Good” and a “Marginal” rating in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

BMW’s 5 Series comes standard with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. Standard are also the BMW Assist and Remote Services emergency communications systems, which include automatic crash notification, an SOS button, remote door unlock and stolen vehicle recovery.
Parkingsensors and a rearview camera are standard on the 550i and optional on other models. An upgraded side- and top-view parking camera system is optional.

The Driver Assistance Plus package includes a blind-spot warning system, a lane-departure warning system and a forward-collision warning system with automatic braking. There is also the Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection system that uses an infrared sensor to detect people and objects outside of headlight range.

The series owes its extraordinary popularity partly to the wide range of engines. A broad spectrum of powerful and efficient four, six and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are available for the BMW 5 Series. It ranges from the BMW 518d (combined fuel consumption: 4.7- 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 124–114 g/km)* to the extremely dynamic M5 Sedan delivering 412 kW/560 hp (423 kW/575 hp with Competition Package, combined fuel consumption: 9.9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 231 g/km)*. Furthermore, the BMW 5 Series is optionally available either with rear-wheel drive or with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive. With the comprehensive range of BMW ConnectedDrive features and unique services such as Intelligent Emergency Call with Accident Severity Recognition, the BMW 5 Series also sets standards in terms of vehicle networking.
