6 Series [Official] BMW 6 Series LCI

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.
Well well well look at that. Didn't even know it existed to be honest.

It is I think. A 6er with a fake one-piece backlight.
No. Bottom line of rear light is different, and trunk door is also different.

Yes they are discussing it.

There is no way, it's just way too late by now. If the next gen 6er is really going to drop 250 kg they are not going to waste any time on this car.

The current 6er is clearly a done deal. So much so they didn't even bother to facelift it. It looks pretty enough to get the job done until the next gen arrives.

Pretty enough??? A bit of an understatement don't you think? This thing is gorgeous...

Yeah, but I keep on thinking about the E63 6er. That car weighs less than 1600 kg with V8 engine.
I can't wrap my head around the obesity of the current car, as pretty as it is.

Rumours I have heard today point to limited edition model based on the incoming GT car under discussion , Carbon Fibre body panels , stripped out interior -remember it has been mentioned previously about doing "Black Series" type BMW M cars and there has always been a passion to do a special car like the BMW M8 E31.

And an interesting quote from the new M boss at the end.

‘ If we were to build a hardcore M5 race machine costing over 100,000 euros we would get the hardcore racers but we would miss all the people looking for a car that combines sportiness with luxury. The M6 has both, and what I like to see is that the motorsport team, which is working on the GT3 car [BMW’s replacement for the Z4 GT car, due on track in 2015], is that they can use the sporty genetics of the M6 and leave out the comfort parts, and by doing that they can easily achieve a very, very good racing car. It’s good to see that the essential balance of the car and the drivetrain is being used in a race car, and of course we look at what they’re doing regarding aerodynamics and so on, to see if there’s anything we can transfer back to the series production cars.’

2016 is the 100th Anniversary of BMW AG. And every brand and sub-brand , also Rolls-Royce and MINI will be showing ideas for the future and exciting new production concepts.

Both convertible and GC are good looking cars with lovely interiors. Those 20inch rims look gorgeous on that GC.

Key Points of the M6 GT3

- Will begin racing in 2016
- Uses the 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine from the road-legal car but highly modified for the track
- Power output taken down to around 500 HP and has dry sump lubrication
- Weight has been dropped to around 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs), including the FIA-approved safety cell or roll cage
- Other features include a transaxle drive, six-speed sequential racing transmission and optimized electronics

1300 kg? Damn, that car has been starving! More than 600 (!!!) kg off! Crazy!

Well it's taken them long enough to realize the Z4 GT3 just wasn't good enough. By the time 2016 comes around, the current 6er will be a year or two from replacement. Nevertheless, a new car from BMW Motorsports is always something to look forward to!
